Jèté Dance Competition Quarter Finals Begin

After successful auditions and a dance work-shop that attracted 18 dance groups with over 80 dancers, the Jèté dance program produced by Ministry of Tourism, Heritage and the Creative Industries is all set to host their quarter finals at the Baywalk Mall on National Day December 13.

This Friday the general public and dance enthusiasts are invited to come watch and support all 18 dance groups do battle. Over $30, 000.00 in cash and prizes to be won. Dance Crews have already received $500.00 for costuming and $1, 000.00 appearance fee for the quarterfinals. The event is free and activities will begin from 12 noon.

The workshop was held at the Gros Islet Secondary School on Saturday November 16th 2013. All 18 dance crews were present: New Generation, Fusion, Cam Dancers, MJ Dancers, RADTP 86, Onyx, N Vouge, Genuine Edition, Masqueraders, New Stars, Dance Xpressions SLU, Twisted, Total HD, En DE Dance and Zero Gravity. The workshop was hosted by the Jèté judges Louisa ‘loulou’ Paul and Olivia Sampson. The workshop featured African Dance, which was taught by one of St. Lucia’s dance guru’s Trevor King. As part of the workshop the dancers were formally introduce to the Jèté Team, given two master classes by Mr. King. The dance crews all had an opportunity to sit down with the judges and discuss the criteria of the competition and what was expected from them.
