Tropicalfete's Caribbean Cultural Showcase 2016
As part of Tropicalfete’s mission to develop the community in the areas of arts and social services, Tropicalfete once again will be presenting their annual Caribbean Cultural Showcase on Sunday June 26, 2016 at Complete Music Studio, 227 St Marks Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11238. The audience will be taken on a cultural journey that includes various artistic disciplines – dance, theater, masquerade, steel pan music, stilting, visual art, music and ventriloquism. The forming cast includes the following.
Dance/Theater Performance
– Tropicalfete Body of Vibration Dance and Theater under the leadership of Gillia Satenay (5 adults performers)
– Stars & Starlettes Dance Team under the leadership of Lynnett Parris (10 kids performers)
Steel Pan Performance
– Tropicalfete’s Steel Pan Ensemble under the leadership of Ashley Murray and Ricardo Greenaway (25 young performers)
Stilt Performance
– Tropicalfete Stilting Unit under the direction of C. Dolor and K. Gibbs includes 12 performance both adults and children.
Visual art work will be exhibited by Junior Andrews of Cocorite House Production.
Masquerade:
Our 2016 Carnival costume theme is “Carnival Royalty”. The event is anticipated as vibrant and colorful with the following designers showcasing their work: Shaina Campbell, K. Gibbs, M. Luke, A Aimable, Daria M., T Paige, Michael Dawkins, and Octavia Narcise. Our Carnival Band will have 4 sections for adults and 4 sections for kids along with 7 individual character costumes,
Additionally, scholarship information and college tours info will be provided by the organization called Roots Revised. There will be an introduction of a panel addressing the past, present and future of Caribbean Music. Awards will be presented to the Tropicalfete’s Stilting Unit and Tropicalfete’s Steel Pan Ensemble. The audience will have a special treat of a ventriloquist performance.
This is a FREE event thanks to the support of New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, New York City Council Member Dearly Mealy, Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs, Citizen Committee for New York City and Materials for the Arts. With this event, Tropicalfete hopes to unite people from different sectors of the community and stimulate creative minds and interests while preserving the cultural heritage for a better and brighter future.
