Haiti's Earthquake and Survival in Photos
On October 21, in conjunction with the photo exhibit Haiti=Survival (No question, but)at Soho Photo 15 White St. in Tribeca, from 6:30pm on, Haiti Cultural Exchange, Soho Photo and Tequila Minsky have partnered for a Haitian cultural event including an artist talk with photographer Tequila Minsky, spoken word performance with Ibi Zoboi, live Haitian jazz with saxophonist Buyu Ambroise and his band and good conversation.
Tequila Minsky is Soho Photo’s October guest exhibitor. She has traveled to Haiti more than 20 times since 1993 in connection with various photojournalistic projects. She arrived in Port-au-Princefive hours before the
earthquake struck on January 12, 2010, having spent almost a week in the Haitian countryside with a delegation visiting the peasant farmer association MPP.
Three hours after the earthquake, Minsky’s photos were published on the NYTimes blog and in the Time’s morning edition. Her exhibition at Soho Photo includes images of the disaster, as it was unfolding and the immediate and
slightly longer aftermath. The exhibit is supported in part by Lower Manhattan Cultural Council. Exhibit continues until October 29.
The cultural evening is sponsored in part by Prestige Beer and Soho/Tribeca restaurants Bubby’s, Boom, Krik Krak and Le Pescadeux .
There is no charge. Donations will be accepted for two organzations working in Haiti. (MUDHA, working in Leogane with women, and Three Little Flowers school in Ft. Royal, damaged by the earthquake)
