The Band ‘JOSEPH’ rocks Movietowne with debut performance

POS, Trinidad – The Caribbean music landscape received a welcomed addition on July 12th with the unveiling of the multifaceted musical unit known as “JOSEPH”.

The 7 member Caribbean music-fusion band had its premiere performance at the famed Fiesta Plaza, Movietowne, Port-Of-Spain and electrified the capacity crowd with their hard-hitting, catchy, original compositions all penned by bandleader Ian D. Joseph. Much to the patrons’ delight, JOSEPH delivered a diverse set featuring a variety of genres which included Reggae, Rock, Rapso, Funk, Soul, and even a jazzy Steel pan tune.

Music lovers at Fiesta Plaza grooved and swayed as JOSEPH’s lead singer/songwriter/guitarist, Ian Joseph, led the band through 11 of his original compositions.

A man of many talents, Ian has performed professionally as part of the bustling live music scene in the US, Canada and his homeland of Trinidad and Tobago. He honed his skills playing several music styles with various bands at clubs, universities and concert venues, and opened for the likes of Burning Spear, Third World and the legendary Wailers.

Besides being Ian’s last name, he interpreted the quote, “JOSEPH is a fruitful bough…” found on Bob Marley’s ‘Rastaman Vibration’ album, as a call and even a responsibility to be a fruitful, creative contributor through his music. He shared, “JOSEPH also represents a Trinbagonian universality based on Ian’s experience of meeting Trinbagonians of East-Indian, African, Syrian, and Chinese descent who all share this surname. It seems that ‘every creed and race’ has embraced the name, so why not give them a chance to embrace the music”?

Most notably, JOSEPH has varied musical influences ranging from North American and British performers such as Nile Rodgers, Eric Clapton, and Sting to Caribbean musicians which include T&T guitarist Tony Voisin (Charlie’s Roots), Kassav’, and Calypso Icon David Rudder. JOSEPH is currently in the process of recording an album of songs.

One of these songs is the well-received, ‘Lula’ which had everyone buzzing after the show. Ian has chosen ‘Lula’ to be the band’s first single which it will release shortly

JOSEPH, which consists of Ian Joseph (Lead Vocals & Guitars), Francois Harewood (Keyboards), Reynold Woodroofe (Bass & Backing Vocals), Roger Salloum (Drums), Shanna and Malene Joseph (Backing Vocals) and special guest artiste, Markita Joseph (Tenor Pan), had the appreciative Fiesta plaza audience leaning on its every note and left them wishing for more. Music fans will get more as the band is booked for numerous gigs throughout this summer around Trinidad.
