Curacao has New York seeing blue! The Curaçao Tourist Board hosted the “Battle of the Blue” portion of the Caribbean Tourism Organization’s “Rum Rumble: Battle of the Mixologists” at New York’s Hudson Terrace on May 10, 2012.

The Curaçao Tourist Board hosted trade, media and other thirsty New Yorkers for the Rum Rumble cocktail recipe contest, featuring local bartenders competing for the title of “Best Caribbean Rum Cocktail”. Bartenders were tasked with using the island’s famous Blue Curacao Liqueur as the featured ingredient, with several judges presiding over the mixology competition. Bartender extraordinaire, Caesar-Robert Alfano, took home the winner’s crown with his “Poseidon’s Tongue Twister” cocktail.

With help from Curaçao representatives of the Curaçao Tourist Board, Blue Curaçao Liqueur Mansion Chobolobo Factory, Kura Hulanda Resorts, Hilton Curaçao, Princess Beach Curaçao, Curaçao spread the word of its upcoming Curaçao North Sea Jazz Festival featuring headliners Carlos Santana and Alicia Keys, as well as the island’s burgeoning tourism product and new attractions. The event was one of a series of Rum Rumble competitions kicking off the start of Caribbean Week in New York, June 4-9, 2012.

The Battle of the Blue succeeded in sparking continued interest in Curaçao in the North American market, with the island recently selected as the ‘Favorite Caribbean Destination’ by About.com in 2012 and the ‘Top Destination 2012’ by Frommer’s.
