Jazz greats Monty Alexander_ John Clayton and Jeff Hamilton will mark the 40th anniversary reunion of one of the great trios in jazz on July 10, 2016 in Hollywood, CA.

CaribPR Wire, NEW YORK, NY, Weds. July 6, 2016: It’s the reunion that will have jazz lovers humming as Jamaica’s Legendary Jazz Great Monty Alexander returns to the stage with Grammy-winning bassist John Clayton and renowned drummer Jeff Hamilton to mark the 40th anniversary reunion of one of the great trios in jazz.

The historic event is set for the prestigious Catalina Bar & Grill in Hollywood, California on July 10th from 7:30 P.M. PDT. On the same date, 40 years ago – July 10, 1976 – the trio of Alexander, Clayton and Hamilton, recorded the original classic album ‘The Monty Alexander Trio – Montreux Alexander – Live! At The Montreux Festival.’

The original album was well received and featured some of Alexander’s finest recordings for the MPS label with Clayton and Hamilton. It was reissued on CD featuring Alexander playing “Satin Doll,” “Work Song” and “Battle Hymn of the Republic” and a version of “Feelings.”

For tickets to this one time can’t miss performance, see here.

    ABOUT THE ARTISTS

    MONTY ALEXANDER

    MONTY ALEXANDER

Pianist Monty Alexander is an American classic. At 71, he tours the world relentlessly with various projects, delighting a global audience drawn to his vibrant personality and soulful message. His spirited conception, documented on more than 70 CDs, draws upon the timeless

verities: endless melody-making, effervescent grooves, sophisticated voicings, a romantic spirit, and a consistent predisposition “to build up the heat and kick up a storm,” as Alexander puts it.

In the course of any given performance, Alexander applies those aesthetics to repertoire spanning a broad range of jazz and Jamaican musical expression – the American songbook and the blues, gospel and bebop, calypso and reggae. Like his “eternal inspiration” – Erroll Garner – Alexander is cited as the fifth greatest jazz pianist ever in The Fifty Greatest Jazz Piano Players of All Time (Hal Leonard Publishing) and mentioned in Robert Doerschuk’s ’88: The Giants of Jazz Piano.’ He gives the hardcore-jazz-obsessed much to dig into while also communicating the message to the squarest “civilian.”

For more on the Monty Alexander and his music visit him on YouTube or at montyalexander.com. You can also like him on Facebook at facebook.com/officialmontyalexander or keep up to date on his performance on Twitter at @montyHKE.

      JOHN CLAYTON

    JOHN CLAYTON

John Clayton is a natural born multi-tasker, excelling as a composer, arranger, conductor, producer, educator, and an extraordinary bassist. His skills have garnered him a number of challenging assignments and commissions. With a Grammy on his shelf and eight additional nominations, artists such as Diana Krall, Paul McCartney, Regina Carter, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Gladys Knight, Queen Latifah, and Charles Aznavour vie for a spot on his crowded calendar. Clayton is the co-founder of the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra and is a former bass teacher at Cal State Long Beach, UCLA, USC and the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music. Now, in addition to individual clinics, workshops, and private students as schedule permits, he also directs the educational components associated with the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival, Centrum Festival, and Vail Jazz Party.

His career highlights include arranging the ‘Star Spangled Banner” for Whitney Houston’s performance at Super Bowl 1990, which went platinum; playing bass on Paul McCartney’s CD ” Kisses On The Bottom;” arranging and playing bass with Yo-Yo Ma and Friends on “Songs of Joy and Peace;” arranging playing and conducting the 2009 CD “Charles Aznavour With the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra,” and numerous recordings with Diana Krall, the Clayton Brothers, the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz, Orchestra, Milt Jackson, Monty Alexander and many others.

        JEFF HAMILTON

    JEFF HAMILTON

Originality is what versatile drummer Jeff Hamilton brings to the groups he performs with and is one of the reasons why he is constantly in demand, whether he is recording or performing with his trio, Oscar Peterson, Ray Brown, the Clayton Brothers or co-leading the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra. Hamilton’s recording, ‘It’s Hamilton Time,’ (Lake Street Records), received enormous airplay while reaching #5 on the Gavin national jazz radio chart.

His trio’s second release, ‘Jeff Hamilton Trio-LIVE!,’ (MONS) was nominated by critics for best jazz recording in Germany in 1997. The trio’s second MONS release was entitled, ‘Hands On.’ ‘Hamilton House-Live at Steamers,’ (MONS) was the trio’s 2000 release.

As well as recording and performing throughout the world, Hamilton also teaches, arranges and composes. He has received rave reviews for his dynamic drumming. In addition to his many recordings with Ray Brown, Hamilton has been on nearly 200 recordings with artists such as Natalie Cole, Diana Krall, Milt Jackson, Rosemary Clooney, Barbara Streisand, Mel Torme, John Pizzarelli, Benny Carter, Lalo Schifrin, George Shearing, Dr. John, Clark Terry, Gene Harris, Toshiko Akioshi, Scott Hamilton, Harry ” Sweets” Edison, Keely Smith, Bill Holman, Herb Ellis, Barney Kessel and Mark Murphy. He is a frequent guest of the WDR Big Band in Cologne, Germany and has also appeared in Natalie Cole’s Great Performances PBS special, ‘Unforgettable’ and an Oscar Peterson documentary, ‘Life In The Key Of Oscar.’

  • Second Annual Opera Festival Underway in T&T

Second annual Trinidad & Tobago opera festival underway

The musical event is taking place from July 1-10 in Port of Spain

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad – July 5, 2016 – The newly rebranded Picoplat Music Development Foundation (formerly the Classical Musical Development Foundation of Trinidad and Tobago) is hosting the second annual Trinidad & Tobago Opera Festival from July 1-10, 2016 at Queen’s Hall in Port of Spain. The Opera Festival is known to be a celebration of great music and authentic Trinbagonian talent, comprising of several classical music events from opera to master classes. Additionally, during the festival, T&T composer Dominique LeGendre of ‘Jab Molassie’ fame is expected to launch of a new series of songs.

The second annual Trinidad & Tobago Opera Festival kicked off with a cocktail reception and a gala opening performance of the Tales of Hoffman, one of the most ravishing productions by German-born French composer, Jacques Offenbach. Hoffmann, played by Raguel Gabriel recounts the stories of the fascinating women who captured his heart—Olympia (Natalia Dopwell), Giulietta (Stephanie Nahous) and Antonia (Cara Adams). Hoffmann’s hopeless pursuit of romance, obstructed by menacing figures of darkness, ultimately leads him to understand the true meaning of being an artist.

Extraordinary work that is equal parts fantasy, realism, and genuine passion, the Tales of Hoffman includes other talented Trinidad & Tobago performers including Shannon Navarro, Krisson Joseph, Rory Wallace and Nigel Floyd.

The Trinidad & Tobago Opera Music Festival is accessible to the public through several free admission events that caters to those who never had the opportunity to experience an opera or who have never been exposed to classical music. The festival continues throughout the week with a free one-hour performance for school children on July 5 and a premiere of Domique LeGendre’s newly commissioned “Songs of the Islands” on July 8. The closing matinee of the Tales of Hoffman shows at the Queen’s Hall on July 10.

For additional information on the schedule of events, please click here or follow the  Trinidad & Tobago Opera Festival on Twitter,  Instagram  and Facebook.

  • Dancehall Dancer KaSheba To Release New Video!

DASK ENTERTAINMENT, INC. – Sunday, June 26, 2016 – Dancehall Dancer, KaSheba, is making major strides as she gears up to launch her latest solo project. Shot in Brooklyn, New York; the videographer ‘on deck,’ was none other than Brooklyn’s own, UkaY Hipster—dancehall’s official videographer here in New York City (@ArtofUkay on Instagram).

KaSheba choreographed to the song, “Cry” by artist/dancer, BruKUp. For the filming, she wore the newly designed Summer 2017 “Spread Love Gang” collaboration tank endorsed by her clothing sponsor, Cooyah Clothing Inc., along with a black split-skirt and custom-made sneaker heels!

This video will be a very special feature because she choreographed it herself! KaSheba wanted to make sure her fans got a taste of what she loves about dancehall—and give that to her fans! This will be KaSheba’s third official video—whereas many of her posts are dancing along dancehall heavy-hitters, such as Tek Ravers from Ravers Clavers. This video showcases KaSheba’s unique style! Branded as the “Dancehall Diplomat” (because she does not belong to any particular crew but ‘holds vibes’ with all of them), KaSheba strives for unification in all arts and entertainment. Spearheading the “I Am Cooyah” campaign she joined forces with Dancehall Dancers from all over the world to bring positive awareness to Dancehall– as a culture. Sparking a dancehall movement,

KaSheba remains at the forefront and spotlight of creating that unique niche that has been missing in the industry. She continues to break barriers, by fusing the elements of who she is with the elements of Dancehall culture. “When we are ourselves, people can identify with that,” said KaSheba—when asked why she chooses to stray away from the standard, dancehall uniform: batty-rider shorts, middrifts and flat shoes when doing dancehall. “We create culture – culture doesn’t create us, that’s how we evolve.” KaSheba has other projects in the works. She stated, “I am so excited to be a dancehall dancer! I love to inspire people, both young and old. At the end of the day I want to know that my dancing became infectious…” KaSheba is available for bookings dance, modeling gigs and hosting opportunities alike. Be sure to keep up with her entertainment updates via Facebook, Twitter & Instagram @TVHOSTKJ. Also make sure to visit her site www.hollyworldtv.com

  • DIVERSIFICATION WITHOUT GOVERNMENT SYMPOSIA TO BE HELD TUES 5TH JULY

The Artists’ Coalition of Trinidad and Tobago alongside the Federation of Independent Trade Unions and NGOs present a unique symposia entitled ‘Diversification Without Government: Conversation 1’ on Tuesday 5th July, 2016. The event will be held in the CLR James Auditorium at the Cipriani College of Labour & Co-operative Studies, Churchill Roosevelt Highway, Valsayn from 10am- 3pm.

The Symposium asks the question: What can industries and communities that have the potential of transforming into the ‘next big thing’ do if government does nothing to create the enabling environment? This is a practical and philosophical discussion exploring the possibilities of emancipating the capacity of the T&T’s Talented and the next generation of exportable products.

The public- especially students- are invited to come and hear some of the country’s top minds debate the issue. There will be Presentations by: Wendell Mottley; Gregory McGuire; Dean Arlen; Indera Sajewan-Ali; Shiraz Khan; Burton Sankerali; Akins Vidale; Novack George; Camille Selvon-Abrahams; Robert Young; Rubadiri Victor; and reps from the IT, Boat Building, Manufacturing, and other NEXT Sectors.

Planned by ACTT president Rubadiri Victor and marketing professional Radesh Heeralal the symposia is an attempt at creating implementable pathways to community and economic transformation. “Diversification requires legislation, policy, infrastructure, and fiscal enablers. We the People cannot pass laws or ratify policy which are important parts of the Diversification process. We do not have access to government taxation wealth to invest in infrastructure and projects that are needed. Therefore can the Creative Sector, Boat Building, Alternative Energy, Agriculture & Food Processing, IT, Sports, Research and Development sectors jump to the next level on their own?” asks Symposia organiser Victor.

“This will be the first of a number of discussions on the matter which we hope to expand into town hall meetings and across all industries. We hope to create a Working Group out of this that will engage real Diversification leveraging projects in specific industries. The failure to engage this critical issue in any meaningful way over 35 years- despite facing 2 economic slumps- is worrying and so it may be time that the population meditate on how it can make the jump themselves…”

This Forum happens in the midst of a National Recession announced by the Central Bank Governor in December 2015, and a report of entering into ‘Deep Recession’ by the Minister in the Ministry of Finance, with predictions that it will last until 2018. • STREETCRED RELEASE: CLARENDON LIVE HIGHLIGHTS INTERNATIONAL REGGAE DAY – JULY 1

Central Jamaica’s monthly series, Clarendon Live; returns after a one month hiatus, with a strong showcase for International Reggae Day on Friday July 1.

The first Friday live music series, which has become a staple on the Clarendon entertainment calendar, will return to its home venue at Fyahside Jerk and Bar in Toll Gate in Clarendon on July 1.  For the International Reggae Day staging, the event offers up a unique live performance from powerful female vocalist Etana as well as a dynamic set from Reggae crooner Duane Stephenson.

We wanted to give patrons a special treat for International Reggae Day and so we reached out to two talented artistes with great catalogues who don’t get to perform that much here in Jamaica because of constant touring overseas” promoter Joseph Moore of EppJam Promotions shared

Both artistes are known for their signature sounds and poignant lyrics and are excited to grace the stage of the event. Etana’s catalog includes hits such as ‘Wrong Address’, ‘Warrior Love’ and ‘I Am Not Afraid’ while Duane, the former To-Isis front-man, is known for hits such as: ‘Cottage In Negril’, ‘Ghetto Pain’, ‘August Town’ and ‘Cool Runnings’.

It’s great to be able to celebrate International Reggae day in Jamaica performing for fans in Clarendon. I urge everyone to come out and hear your favorite Etana track, plus some new music from me as well; it’s going to be a blessing!” Etana shared

Patrons may purchase presold tickets at Fyah Side or at Banton Gym in May Pen. For all updates and information on the live series follow the event on all social media platforms: Facebook, Instagram and twitter @clarendonlive.
