Washington DC’s own Konshens (pronounced: conscience) has taken this DMV by storm. The once child prodigy attended The Institute for the Gifted and Talented at the tender age of 4. As a young child, he began writing poetry and continued to play music wherever there was an audience, all while developing his unique contribution to hip hop. Now as an adult, when he is not giving back to his community as a “teaching Artist-in-Residence” at 3 different schools in Washington, DC, Konshens & His State of Mind (his own 7 piece band) are traveling the nation. Back home he has received the Appreciation award from the City Council of Baltimore, the “Best Rap Album”, the “Best Male Hip-Hop Artist” and the “Entertainer of the Year” award from Velocity Magazines; amongst other accolades. Next week, Konshens hits up none other than SOB’s in NYC to deliver his original, thought provoking performance! Don’t miss this one-of-a-kind show, your tickets now!

Apartment 19 music is set to release a unique project poised to dominate the holiday season. The ten year old imprint, responsible for a number of hit singles from dancehall duo RDX, has created its first ever Juggling riddim project; inspired by, and designed for the ladies and the men who love them.
The Gyalla Park riddim, features an all-star lineup of artistes who rule the proverbial ‘Gyal Segment’; Spice, RDX, Razor B, QQ, Liquid, Mr. Vegas, Kalado, Macka Diamond and Raytid.
The decision to produce this concept as a juggling project was ultimately an easy one for the producers and label executives.
“Its been many moons since there has been an all ‘girls song’ juggling in Dancehall. And since Apt. 19 Music is known for producing quality girls songs, its only fitting that our first juggling be all about the females.” Label executive Carlton Williams explained
The record label that originally began operating out of an actual residential apartment, has grown tremendously over the years. The label has created hit material for Dancehall ‘Girl Bosses’ RDX including; Broad Out, Daggering, Everybody Dance, Dancers Boom, Skip, Head Top and Bum. The Apartment 19 production team has also worked with other labels producing songs with Vybz Kartel, Beenieman, Bounty Killer, Lady Saw, Capleton and more.
The Gyalla Park Riddim will be taking on the streets later this week, mirrored by what DJ Liquid says in his song on the project “From Downtown to country to Gyalla Park”.
“A few artistes have already shot their music videos for their singles on the ‘Gyalla Park’ riddim and a few more videos are in the works, so its full speed ahead from now on.” Label Executive Andre Bedward added.
The complete Gyalla Park Riddim is scheduled to be released on all digital platforms by January 2016 and is distributed by Hapilos Digital Distribution.

The third edition of the Stag Riddim is finally here and the infectious piece will make you keep hitting replay. Themusical combination brings together renowned Soca artists – Ian “Bungi Garlin” Alvarez, Terrin “Jaiga” Callender,
Devon “Lyrikal” Martin, and the highly acclaimed producerKlase Gonzales – to create a sound that showcases Trinidad and Tobago’s diverse talent.
The track, Soca music with a fusion of electronic sound and live percussive instruments, was produced by 1st Klase Records – a Chaguanas based progressive label that continues to craft and compose the future of Soca music. It was mixed by Neel “Fadda” Dwala and mastered by Sterlin Sounds in London, and is an intense follow-up to STAG Riddim 1 and 2, which were released in time for the 2013 and 2014 Carnival season.
Shehann Caruth, Brand Manager, STAG Beer says Stag was driven to create something that would add to the Carnival environment in a positive way.
“As the STAG brand grows, solidifying the fact that it is indeed “the” beer of Trinidad and Tobago Carnival and beyond, so too can these Riddims help to promote the Soca art form around the globe, while showcasing the talent of young artists,” says Caruth.
The three songs produced on the STAG Riddim 3 will no doubt appeal to all the men attending Carnival Fetes. “Way Up” was written and is performed by the viking of soca, Bungi Garlin, while “Tingz It Nice” was written by Kernal
Roberts and is performed by Jaiga. The third track, “Party Tun”, is performed by Lyrikal.
Commenting on the inspiration behind his contribution, Bungi Garlin noted that “Way Up” came from everyday street life.
“It’s really about the vibe when people who know each other meet up on the road and give one another a “bounce” or pass and hail with a “respect” on the way to a lime, by a the corner bar, the club and things like that. Typical
Trini life, you know, but the one thing that is most present amidst all that is a beastly cold STAG. It’s really like a portrait of a typical Carnival Friday evening/night in Trinidad and Tobago.”
With blazing performances to back this ambitious track, STAG Riddim 3 is bound to find a home on playlists everywhere throughout the Carnival season both in Trinidad and Tobago and the Soca community, globally. The intoxicating Riddim will be released on November 19th 2015.
About the Artwork:
The art designed for the riddim is powerful and describes the strong relationship between STAG and Trinidad and Tobago culture. The three STAG colours in paint reflect the revelry of Carnival. The three illuminated pillars represent the pulse of electronic dance music. The three steel rings represent the soul and rhythm of the people. This trifecta fused together brings a new sound; STAG…..D Riddim of Carnival.
STAG is European style lager with a distinct, robust flavour and a lingering but gentle aftertaste. Both its taste and its name are indicative of what true masculinity is – unforgettable strength and character. It appeals to the male consumer who embodies these characteristics and who appreciates a beer that reminds him and everyone around him of exactly who he is.

While Fay-Ann Lyons may have started the ball rolling ahead of Carnival 2016 with her African inspired hit, “Block De Road” which features Ghanaian singer, Stonebwoy, other artistes are moving full speed ahead toward the magic of the motherland, infusing their harmonies with the rhythmic African beats that are somehow distinctive to that part of the world.
Mysta Lyon- a Trinidad born singer who lives in the United States but maintains his heritage, says the African beat has revitalized the genre quite a bit. Having heard the sweetness brought to the fore in recent years, with Kerwin Du Bois and Machel Montano’s collaborative track with South Africa’s Ladysmith Black Mambazo in 2013 and now, Lyons’ tantalizing single, he’s excited to throw himself into the foray, delivering a song he feels is more than worthy of being included in the soca list of must-plays heading toward the season of revelry and ecstasy in T&T.
“Go Down Low” is a reflection of what’s seen annually on the island of steelpan, mas and calypso, during carnival and even outside of the festival period, the artiste and music producer concedes. He says the song is all relative to what’s displayed and coupled with a tune that encourages the desire, Mysta Lyon is promising a frenzy of Trini excitement anytime his single is played in the days and weeks ahead.
A chance. That’s all he feels he needs to win the hearts of the Caribbean people. “It all comes down to that really. It’s all a matter of delivering good music at the right time and I think my time has come,” he shared.
Mysta Lyon’s co-written music with several foreign- based soca artistes, among them, Brooklyn based hit-maker, Lyrikal, fellow artiste and videographer, Ronnie Homer and Kiko Dan with whom he’s word arduously with in the creation of most of his music. Mysta Lyon has also worked with St. Vincent powerhouse, Fya Empress, producing her 2014 hit single, “Drink Ah Juice” on the Swanky riddim. In the past, the co-founder of US record label, ROAR Productions, has himself released several songs, among them, “Rum Drinkers” in 2013, “Drinkin-Lymin” and “J’ouvert Vibes”. He however understands the dynamic of the soca music industry and has continued to keep his eye on the prize, making notes and targeting the people who he feels will be most appreciative of his work. “I understand the need to have a core fan base. I’ve worked on that and I will continue to do that. I don’t expect it to be easy for someone who’s not in T&T to up and make it big in just one or two years on the soca circuit. I however believe that music can speak for itself so when good songs really get the opportunity to be heard, there really can’t be any denying it,” he said.
Mysta Lyon’s ready for the challenge. He’s ready to show T&T just what he’s got. “Go Down Low” is just the beginning and with Mother Africa on his side, he seems pretty much set for success, wouldn’t you say?

This riddim portrays various scenarios and lifestyles within the carnival atmosphere.
Everyone likes to party, everyone likes to fete. However, not all patrons are the same. Some patrons spend their money and attend parties, some storm the event but some naturally have an all access face aka visa face. Juby is telling people to “Make sure yuh have ah visa face” not only within the season but throughout life.
Nevertheless, there are persons who have little concern about having all access to events. What they are really concerned with is having a good time. Once there is women and drinks, everything is right or as a good friend Asten Isaac will say, “once ah band on meh hand is Gallery I could play mehself now,” “and I fete until ah fall.” Now that is “Gallery.”
We all know about the alcohol consumption within the culture. It’s a norm in society to stop by a bar and “call ah rounds.” However, one shouldn’t drink to get drunk rather one should drink to enjoy life. Life might not be going the way u like but as a good friend #showtime will say, “When all have fail, Is rum that does keep meh company.” For carnival is “Whole Day” ah drinking rum.
Now…While a man may prefer rum, other men may need that female companion in his presence. Particularly during carnival there is a natural reaction for a woman to activate her mid range. It is also a natural reaction for a man to gravitate to a woman’s rotational movements. This carnival A good friend #Chingee is targeting one woman and as he will say, “I just wanna Wine on yuh”
Meanwhile, there are women who utilize their bodies and capitalize on the urges of men. There is a level of confidence embedded in women during carnival season. A demanding approach tends to be the approach of most women especially during carnival and one particular woman representative is Essy, who surely is “not afraid to tell you how she wants” Accept yuh “Rudeness” but Don’t judge her. Be Confident
While these songs describe scenes within the carnival atmosphere, the concept of #WakeUpLive encourages persons to reveal that silent inner self and portray your suited lifestyle in any scenario in and outside carnival.

CHUCK GORDON NO TIME
LAVENTILLE, PORT-OF-SPAIN – Live in the moment. That’s the overarching message in Chuck Gordon’s new groovy soca single “No Time”.
The back to back National Calypso Monarch has teamed up with ace producer Juelio Nelson and H2O Phlo alumni Jason “Fridge” Seecharan on the single that is already creating quite a buzz among soca fans.
The Laventille-based artiste takes his vocal delivery to the next level on “No Time”. He flawlessly vocalizes the opening notes. Finds perfect harmony with Fridge on the chorus. And he delivers his message with a strong lead.
“We’re going deeper than the surface of the lyric. Far too often we’re so focused on the outcome we forget to enjoy the process. That’s why I say ‘Don’t look back’. Only when the picture is completed can we fully appreciate it,” he said.
Rising star filmmaker Denith Mc Nicolls is the man behind the lens bringing Gordon’s “No Time” visual to life. The Denithy director utilized white space and graffiti art to tell the story of a bigger overarching picture being created to the backdrop that is life.
Alixzander Morle and his team at Engine Design Studios are the instruments of that design. The talented Belmont-based artist brings his own interpretation to the “No Time” project completing the creative circle of music, art and life.
“When all elements come together the picture is complete. Now we all bask in the result and are well satisfied. Now we share with the world that message and experience,” Gordon summated.
