  • Fay-Ann Lyons: Raze

    Fay-Ann Lyons – Raze

The grandest of entries with the first official solo single leading up to the impending Trinidad and Tobago carnival season 2015, is the amazing and unexplainably talented songstress Fay-Ann Lyons. Viqueen Fay-Ann has time and time again shown herself to be a true musician and superstar with her factory-like, hit-making countenance and abilities.

The culmination of various music styles and musical minds creating a masterpiece from what was once a blank canvas brings illumination to the otherwise dark galleria that is carnival.

Morphing Soca with Electronic Dance Music has never been as fulfilling as it now is in the house of Ground Empire. “RAZE” a written project by Fay-Ann Lyons in which she highlights vocal abilities reminds us why she is Viqueen and why she remains amongst the best entertainers to do it in this new era.

Exercising a rare type of skill, STADIC, formerly as KC, breathes life to the music which complements and transforms the celestially hypnotic vocals of Viqueen Fay-ann. The additional flavor of LAZAbeam (Jus Now) and Wetty Beatz seals this exceptional record which transcends carnival stages and almost guarantees widespread success for this internationally aimed rendition.

    Written by Fayann Lyons-Alvarez
    Produced by Stadic Studio Productions
Live acoustic guitar by Enrico “Di Gittarman’ Camejo
Additional production by LAZAbeam and Wetty Beatz
Mixed and Mastered by LAZAbeam of Jus Now

  • “Clay J’ouvert Merges The Old With The New- Keeps Tradition Alive”

    CLAY 1

Port-of-Spain, Trinidad. January 23, 2015———-Ole time mas in Trinidad and Tobago is getting a facelift. The transformation began in 2014 and the evolution continues this year. A J’ouvert experience dubbed CLAY J’ouvert is responsible for the effort to synergize the old with the new, bringing what once was, to the fore again, in a beautiful way.

CLAY J’ouvert is really a traditional mud mas band based in the Woodbrook area. This year, the team who brought the concept to life last year, is looking toward creating a more memorable experience this year. The CLAY experience boasts what has been coined ‘the finest mud from a secret location along the East coast of Trinidad.’ Together with mud, patrons of this traditional J’ouvert band bask in the colourful delight of abir- most often used during the Hindu Phagwa celebrations. “Our aim is to deliver to patrons, a totally immersive J’ouvert experience by finding the perfect balance between an ole time vibe and a progressive edge,” said representative of the band, Justin Gosine. He said the band enjoyed a pretty successful debut in 2014 and in 2015, in a bid to up the anti, CLAY is offering a limited traditional section costume- a J’ouvert favourite, ‘Nighties and Wigs.’

“We encourage creativity from our masqueraders and welcome all do-it-yourself ole mas costumes,” said Gosine, in the same breath emphasizing the team’s goal of maintaining the traditional elements of a Trinidad and Tobago J’ouvert experience.

The band launches on Saturday January 24th at La Habana along Ariapita Avenue. A spectacle of colour and muddy madness is expected to be shown off, delivering to the Avenue’s supporters, a little taste of the CLAY experience in the lead up to T&T’s J’ouvert.

Organisers lament that many of the true traditions of T&T’s carnival have been sidelined for pretty, modern replacements. Gosine said this is their way of bringing the youths to a time of purity, when Carnival and J’ouvert in particular delivered a message through creativity.

  • Tiana The Fabulous One Of The Fabulous Five Shines At Sting Despite Being Interrupted

Tiana The Fabulous One Of The Fabulous Five Shines At Sting Despite Being Interrupted – @TianaMusic
Swedish Promoter Vanessa Marko booked a show for Sweden minutes after Tiana exits the stage.

The Dancehall Duchess Tiana who was scheduled for 5am performance time at Sting 2014, had to perform a little later given that the show’s performance schedule was way behind time.

Even though the Dancehall Duchess was robbed of her performance time, according to many online reviews and patrons at the show, for them Tiana turned out to be the Fabulous one of The Fabulous Five even though her performance time was rudely interrupted by MC Nuffy which most persons labeled as being bias towards Tiana as everyone else got more time but failed to execute.

“I was so shocked, because I thought Sting was about talking up di things dem, but from my point of view it seems as if a certain people weren’t too happy with me addressing certain issues. But them need fi know that is not enough to stop Tiana because I knew what I’m capable of doing and I didn’t even had to dress naked fi get a fawud, or pay people to buss fire crackers and blow horns during my performance. I dont know why some of these artistes believe that a whack performance can be hidden behind fake encores (Fawud).”

Tiana added, “mi still cant understand why the Category was called the Fabulous Five when I am the only Fabulous one, it should have been called The Fabulous One And The Others. I am so hurt about what took place, but from every bad comes good cause right after that short performance, my manager has been getting a lot of mails from promoters who are now curious of what would be the results of my energetic performance if I had given the chance to complete my set. Special big up to the Swedish Promoter Vanessa Marko who booked a show for Sweden minutes after I exited the stage.”

According to Tiana, The Fabulous One, she will not let such negativity discourage her as she’s now focusing on her upcoming 2015 European Tour from January 16th to February 28th alongside Kalado.

Tiana and Kalado will be going to several countries such as France, Germany, Switzerland, Netherlands, Sweden, Italy with more countries soon to be confirmed.

Tiana One Of Stings Fabulous Five – Upcoming European Winter Tour

The Dancehall Duchess Tiana will be one of the Fabulous Five divas to be showcased at this year’s 31st staging of Sting: Dubbed as “Two Mega Shows One Night”.

Tiana who is now gearing up for her third European tour alongside “Mr. Personally” Kalado is definitely poised to be one of the favorites in the Sting’s Fabulous Five Category.

The Duchess who has been touring back to back with popular songs such as Dem A Bawl (Tiana ti ti Tiana), B-Rider, Balance Pon Mi Head, Yuh Nuh Groupie, Cant Talk Bad Bout Mi and Only Girl Him Want should definitely have the female fans in the palm of her hands the fact that most of her songs can be described as female Anthems. Fans can expect a great show from Tiana alongside the energetic “Most Wanted” female dancers who will be demonstrating how to dance to Tiana’s fast rising DHQ anthem Balance Pon Mi Head.

According to Tiana, “we have to big up Laing, Heavy D and the entire Reggae Sting crew for the intense promotion they have placed on the young & upcoming female artistes of Dancehall. I think its the first time in the history of Dancehall that such an event like Sting as put the ladies in the spotlight especially with a 3am performance time. This is kind of respect we as female artistes deserved and I hope others will continue such trend. Now the world will get a chance to see their favorite female acts performing live from Jamaica via paper-view and several other internet streaming websites. its definitely a good look, its just for us to go out there and execute.”

  • Champeon unleashes groovy Soca track “2nite”

Champeon unleashes groovy Soca track “2nite”

Columbia, South Carolina (Sonique Solutions) – Trinidadian Soca artiste Champeon has released his groovy Soca contender entitled ‘2nite’ which by several accounts is geared to be a true ladies anthem with its catchy hooks and attention-grabbing instrumentation.

Champeon whose real name is Ronnel Ramirez is based South Carolina and collaborated with US Virgin Islands crooner Adam O for this latest Carnival 2015 offering.
With production by St. Thomas based producer A Plus, Champeon wrote 2nite with the hopes of creating a track that would embody the Carnival spirit yet transcend the festival season.

2nite features melodic guitar strums and pulsating percussion beats and the song’s lyrics manifest images of Carnival euphoria and groups of females dancing and enjoying themselves in a fete. According to Champeon, “So far music fans, fellow artistes, DJs and producers have been very encouraging with this 2015 track, and have even described 2nite as very ‘danceable’ and captivating from the song’s first instrumental note.”

2014 has been a year of breaking boundaries for Champeon as he has collaborated with several entertainers from the Caribbean region as well as Africa, released his first Reggae track ‘Woman’s Anthem’ and had his previous Soca songs ‘Mad Man Dey’ and ‘Red Devil’ appearing on traditional R&B and Reggae charts in the US and UK.

He has been a staple in the North-American Caribbean festival circuit with performances at major nightclubs and events such as Charlotte Caribbean festival and Charleston Carifest, sharing stages with high profile entertainers the likes of Beenie Man, Benjai, 5 Star Akil, Chucky, Tallpree, and Pumpa.

As far as 2015 is concerned, Champeon is armed and ready with this new groovy Soca release and plans to do a video for 2nite as he truly believes in the song’s appeal. He remains humble and thankful to his fans, family, friends and artiste support team of Sunshyne P, Khwantza, Penny, Kirton and Coolie G.

The hard-working entertainer who has aspirations of performing in Madison Square Garden and working with Soca stars Machel Montano, Destra Garcia and Bunji Garlin has several live radio interviews set up in the Caribbean, US and Canada, an upcoming musical collaboration with Ghanaian artiste Blouk-Gee and will perform at the Bob Marley Winter Splash in February.

  • New Music from Amilcar Sanatan

Amilcar Sanatan – Find it Now (Bunji Garlin Tribute)

Too often we celebrate our heroes when they are gone. And too often they are only made visible and valid to us when crowds across seas and overseas put the spotlight on them before us.

This song honours the work Bunji Garlin has done in his lifetime, as well as speaks to his long career and contribution to the soca art form throughout the years. I remember when my father bought me the Black Spaniard CD Album while I was a secondary school student in Barbados (and the lyrics I stole in school battles…#Desperado). And hey! Who can forget the Uncle Bunji sessions in Arima?

Hopefully, the successes of our everyday cultural heroes can inspire the youth of Trinidad and Tobago to work hard, find their star and make possible what the naysayers/haters called our impossible dreams. #FindItNow #Soca2015

Hailing from Kempshot of Montego Bay Jamaica, Tenza A.K.A The Bosslady is a musical angel in disguise. Born and raised in a family of fifteen, which consisted of nine brothers and Five sisters, she grew up in a life of struggle and disappointment so she certainly knows how to appreciate all of her blessings that she has been given and her musical talent was definitely one of those blessings not taken for granted.

Tenza left Jamaica when she was only fourteen to reside in the UK, in the town of Slough. For Tenza it was a difficult time leaving all her friends and family to begin a whole new life in England. At first, she found it hard adjusting to the new culture especially in school. As time went by Tenza made new friends when she started to attend the slough youth center music classes. Tenza then felt at home as she now found her joy, which is music.

When he first emerged on the local Dancehall music scene back in 2004 he was still in school and called him self ‘Sinister.’ He was introduced by a close friend to an industry personnel to “make things happen”, but he was still in school about to sit his final year exams. He was advised to “finish up, complete the exams and return” he did just that and more determined than he ever was.

Lloyd Brammer grew up in Maxfield Gardens, one of Kingston’s toughest communities. He attended one of Kingston’s prominent traditional schools, Calabar High. There Brammer spent much of his spare time entertaining his school mates free styling to rhythmic sounds they created from hitting the top of a desk with the hand. One of his very good friend at school who believed in him and lived within close proximity of the home/office of one leading entertainment companies in Kingston where artistes such as Bounty Killer his then role model, spent most of his days, took him to meet Bounty Killer. Brammer wanted a piece of the Dancehall entitlement, he wanted a break and this would have been his very first meaningful effort. Visiting the offices of Solid Agency where he hoped to meet the head of that company, Bramma instead met Ms. Sharon Burke’s Assistant, Sophia McKay.
