‘SKY & LIGHT’ is about the magical world of the heavens. The aspirational, the unattainable, the realm of fantasy and dreams….the world of clouds, rainbows, planets and the aurora borealis. The kingdom of the sun, the moon, the stars, lightning and flight… The first divine element, the Big Bang, the “Let there be Light!…”

Costume sections will include: Twilight; Clouds; Nebula; Light; Angels; Stars; and more…

The band’s mascamp is located at #10 Dennis Mahabir Street, Woodbrook and registration has begun. SKY & LIGHT will be a Monday/Tuesday all-inclusive, premium-drinks jump-up
Breakfast, lunch, snacks, and premium drinks will be served on the road and there will both top DJs like Joy Juice and live music on the road. Band members are also assured of a safe and secure jump up with an effective security team. Band members also have a special jouvay option because ‘Generation Lion Jouvay’ is the official Jouvay band for ‘Sky and Light’ with their portrayal of ‘DAWN/mudlight’…

“The future of mas has arrived!”

  • Tobago’s Extempo Champ Keeps Culture Alive On Trinidad’s Sister Isle

Port-of-Spain, Trinidad – While soca music and the young entertainers who push the genre seem to be the main focus when Trinidad and Tobago’s carnival comes around, it must not be forgotten that Calypso music is an integral part of the festival. And while the events that take place throughout the season in Trinidad receive most of the attention, sister isle Tobago also enjoys its fair share of Carnival excitement.

D’ Entertainers Tent is one such place where the carnival merriment can be experienced. This year, the calypso showcase will be launched on February 2nd at Docksite Entertainment Bar from 8pm. Tent owner and reigning Tobago Extempo Champion, Lady IB is calling on calypso lovers to be a part of it all, promising that the 15 calypsonians aligned to the tent will even be performing in Trinidad before the end of the season. Having started the calypso tent in 2006 after recognizing the need to provide a platform for calypsonians who found it difficult to get their music heard, Ingrid Brathwaite or Lady IB as she’s popularly known, decided that the only solution would be to create a home for these undiscovered entertainers. Since the launch of D’ Entertainers Tent eight years ago, Brathwaite has seen growth. In fact, the tent is recognized island wide as one of the popular spots when carnival comes around, this despite there being a couple other tents, including the TUCO tent in Tobago.

Brathwaite has a few accomplishments to her name. In addition to being the reigning Extempo Queen of Tobago, she has also won the Tobago Calypso Queen competition and she has even represented T&T at the Dominica World Calypso Queen competition. Her passion for the art form has propelled her to give back in this small way and with her focus on sharing these 15 members of her tent with all of Trinidad and Tobago and essentially, the world, Brathwaite remains motivated.

This carnival, D’ Entertainers Tent will be rolling into several hotspots in Trinidad. Among them are, Trevo’s in St. Augustine, La Rez at Morvant Junction and Fordie’s in Carenage. This year also makes it six years since Brathwaite began taking her Tobago born tent over to the mainstream Trinidad carnival market, something she believes adds credibility to her brand while helping the artistes with exposure. The tent will offer patrons eight shows for the season between both islands and with anticipation, both Brathwaite and the members of her entertainment team are rearing to go. Some of the names in the lineup are, Sando- described as a featured act, Culture B, Brathwaite herself and Cabbasi. The tent is hosted by Tobagonian MC Cudjoe.

Ready to deliver a good show to patrons, D’ Entertainment Tent is making it known that they are standing firmly among the heavyweights of the calypso arena, on sister isle Tobago. Brathwaite, a big believer in her mission, says there’s no stopping and annually, the tent gets bigger and better.

In a season that has been filled with many innovative firsts, Team Precision is at it again this time adding yet another youthful voice to their roster.

Gregory Ayuen, frontline singer with Karma, joins the team with the groovy ballad “Hold Yuh”; a spicy serenade to the women of Carnival.

The tune delightfully reveals the musical intricacies always associated with Precision Productions, alongside the fine melodic tone of Gregory’s natural abilities.

Akeem “Preedy” Chance and his WeMad partner Stephanas “Steffy” Ramgattie wrote this piece, painting a familiar scene within our festival, of the burgeoning sexual tension that can only be released when wining bodies unite and music takes over.

One major combination that fans of Karamanti can look out for is a song with Ghana’s top Reggae/Dancehall artist Iwan. In 1999, the talented Jamaican vocalist emerged in the reggae scene. His influence and similarity to lover’s rock icon Garnett Silk was evident, hence the name “Linen,” and he swept the world by storm with his massive cover anthem of Whitney Houston’s “Your Love Is My Love.”

Produced by Joe Fraser, Welcome To My World is filled with traditional quality reggae and features his signature covers as well as more than half-a-dozen original songs. The jubilant “Bam Bam” first sang by Toots & The Maytals, a soulful reading of the O’ Jays’ “Your Body’s Here With Me,” the definitive reggae cut of R. Kelly’s “I Look To You” and a tribute to Whitney Houston on “Exhale (Shoop Shoop)” are more of Linen’s irresistible covers that complete the set.

Come Feburary 2014 promoter Darren Hamilton is bringing back the conscious event Iration Ites – The Itesperience which is set to be held at the Redbones Blues Cafe, 1 Argyle Road, Kingston 10.

This prime event is a fusion of cultural vibes, international acts and positive conscious performers, trail blazing bands carrying the message from Jamaica to the world, all on one stage in a festival atmosphere.

Commenting on the event Hamilton said “It is very important that musicians and performers have a space to exercise their craft and where music lovers can get a chance to see music in its truest and purest form. It’s absolutely fantastic that there are already people and places where this platform for our local music to shine and grow is provided, but live music needs more, and the people want more.”
Hamilton who is true believer in the purest form of music said this series will give roots music lovers the chance to come out and enjoy a big festival feel in an intimate setting.
