  • West Indian Powerhouse Dwayne Bravo To Film Movie Debut On His Birthday

LONDON, England – West Indies Cricket ODI Captain and one of the biggest sporting stars to emerge from the Caribbean in recent times, Dwayne Bravo, is set to spend his 30th birthday on Monday, October 7th, filming his movie debut in an Indian thriller.

Bravo, a flamboyant and renowned entertainer, with two singles already released in collaboration with Grammy-award winning superstar Beenie Man, will feature in a specially created song and dance sequence for the much anticipated Tamil movie, ‘Ula,’ directed by the highly-respected Rajan Madhav.
This is Bravo’s first film role and he feels it is fitting that his debut will be in an Indian movie.

On the eve of the press conference announcing his signing for the movie, he told reporters: “India is like my second home now, so I was thrilled when my agent presented the opportunity to me and more so, when she mentioned it was going to be filmed in Chennai, a city to which I obviously have a deep affiliation as a member of the IPL team, Chennai Superkings. I love the people of Chennai and the people of India, and I am relishing the opportunity to work with a talented and highly respected cast and crew in my first film.”

Although the famed Chennai Superkings team lost in the semi-final round of the Cricket Champions League tournament on Friday, October 4th, Bravo was excited at the prospect of still giving something back to the adoring Chennai public – this time in the form of exhibiting his trademark song and dance moves in the movie ‘Ula,’ which features an impressive Indian cinematic cast including Ajmal, Viddharth, Ashok, Radhika Apte, Gayathrie and several other acclaimed stars.

“It was totally unplanned that filming happened to fall on his 30th birthday, but it is a very special way for him to celebrate reaching this milestone and is a testament to all that he has achieved, and continues to achieve” Bravo’s representative, Emma Everett said.

Contrary to his image, however, it is not all about glitz and glamour for the gifted all-rounder, who is often referred to as the talisman in the much loved West Indies international cricket team for his incredible energy and confidence. Bravo will, as he does every year, spend his birthday visiting shelters for the homeless and children’s orphanages, to provide to the needy.

“It is something I do on my birthday each year. I have been very fortunate in my life, and I try to give back as much as I can to others who are less fortunate. During my birthday this year, I will take a break from filming to go and provide for a homeless shelter in Chennai,” the humble star stated.
Whilst Bravo emphasizes an unquestionable priority to his international cricketing career; he does enjoy significant and worthy opportunities outside of cricket, being one of the most in-demand sporting superstars in the world.

“On the rare occasions where my tour or training schedule may permit, I do like to challenge myself with opportunities that I feel may have a longer-term impact. There are a number of projects currently in the pipeline which I am very excited about,” Bravo said.6

His latest endeavor under his FME Recording label features the legendary dancehall and reggae star Mr. Easy. The hit bound reggae single “The Don” merged with Mr. Easy’s smooth melodious voice and flow gives a nod to a favorite dancehall era. Reggae and Dancehall music lovers will appreciate the feel good rhythm and catchy song.

Mr. Easy played and studied hard in the Big Apple, thereby gaining a wealth of experiences in a relatively short space of time. He cites Marvin Gaye, Donny Hathaway, Gladys Knight as well as Erik B and Rakim among his major musical influences. As a youth his dream was to conquer the crowd at New York City’s famous Apollo Theatre while nearly every solo singer that ventured onto that stage was booed off. Mr. Easy was more than successful. Easy recounts how Sidney Mills, the keyboard player from Steel Pulse, helped him to write “Just Be A Lady” and how he sang out for all he was worth. The crowd went wild, they didn’t boo they clapped and cheered. Easy received congratulations and encouragement from people like Patti LaBelle and Quincy Jones. The result of this early success was a record deal with Motown Records and the release of Mr. Easy’s first album.

Extensive touring of the United States, Japan and the Caribbean followed with fellow Jamaican artists such as; Beres Hammond, Shinehead, Red Fox and Shaggy. It was while he was working on his never to be released second album for Warner Brothers with Mickey Bennett that he met Dave Kelly and a long-term alliance was formed. At that time there seemed to be a need to win over a homeland audience that is like none other in the world. For a Jamaican, you could have conquered the globe, but if you’ve never had a major hit in the homeland – you just haven’t truly made it.

  • Jahlight Records Keeps Faith Alive With New Lamb Of God Project

Port-of-Spain, Trinidad – The word of God in all forms including music can uplift and provoke positive change. This is the firm belief of a Trinidad and Tobago based production outfit whose effort to deliver only the best, has seen them release a gospel riddim dubbed the Lamb of God riddim.

In a world where trashy, sexually explicit innuendo is popular culture, Akeunde Pemberton and his team of music makers at Jahlight Records understand the uphill climb they face in ensuring that the masses ingest and enjoy the spiritually charged anthems that this riddim is built around. They are however motivated by their firm belief that they must use the talents and capabilities given to them by the Almighty God, for his honor. “Our goal is to use the messages embedded in this riddim to reach more people of the world with the hope of salvation before it is too late’,” said Pemberton.

Five artistes out of Trinidad and Tobago grace the riddim. From the HTE Family, Bevil Jospeh sings, “One Man Alone,” Jah Kiley delivers, “My Sunshine,” and Kwesi Fontinelle’s powerful rendition of a track called, “Never,Never”, is a breath of fresh air. From the Jahlight Records Family, Matthew Greenidge sings, “Hail My King” while King Solomon offers a single called, “Jesus Christ”.

Already receiving the love of several frequencies in T&T with some of the artistes having been interviewed, plans are underway for the production of several additional gospel projects. “The riddim will be released digitally on iTunes and digital retailers on October 14th via Digital distributor, BFM Digital,” explained Pemberton. Amid this however, the effort to further promote each of the five singles on the riddim at home, across the Caribbean and internationally, continues. “The gospel is the good news of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is the power of God unto salvation,” said Akeunde, reiterating his desire and that of his team, to spread the message of hope and salvation to all.

The team at Jahlight Records, managed by Pemberton is a focused bunch. They firmly believe in the power of positive words, noting that what is placed into the atmosphere is what will be propagated. “This project is all about letting people know who Jesus Christ is. According to the word of God, Christ is the Lamb of God that paid the penalty for the sinners of this world so that through him alone the gift of eternal life is made available onto all. Put your faith in Christ,” Pemberton appealed, hoping that this very powerful message will reach as many people as possible.

  • Jamaica-Antigua’s Kenne Blessin Drops New Single In US Following Europe Tour

Antiguan-Jamaican artist Kenne Blessin was given a hearty welcome by his American fans when he delivered his familiar hits like Seaching and Cinderella plus his newly released single Under Mi Sensi at the Vinyl club in downtown Atlanta. As the only Caribbean performer on the roster for the evening, Kenne Blessin proved his effortless transition as a bonafide crossover artist with the songs that married pop, R&B and a hint of island medley with soca and reggae.

“It was extremely well received,” Kenne Blessin said of his first performance of Under Mi Sensi, now available for online purchase. “I wrote it on my recent tour of Europe that included England and Amsterdam. I was completely astonished with the reception I got in England. People sang along with me when I was on stage and fans came up and said ‘as soon as you opened you mouth, the voice matched the record’.”

After three weeks in Europe, Kenne hit Antigua briefly before being called to engagements in Atlanta and at three venues in New York. He also hit the stage with several major Antiguan artists for Antigua Day at Marcus Garvey Park in Harlem, among them soca monarch Tian Winter.

To mark the new phase in his career, he even cut off his signature locks and has added a stylist to his team who is connected to The Real Housewives of Atlanta. Additionally, he’s appeared in magazines, American newspapers, blogs, radio and his performances were seen on television in several states and across the Caribbean.

“It’s far from a vacation for him,” said manager Patricia Henry of VPJ. “He is working in the studio and on the stage when he’s not taping his reality show and Antigua Crossover Tour. Meanwhile, his team is working behind the scenes in various aspects from publicity to stylists and from bookings to potential endorsements and securing contracts. Right now, America is ripe and ready to embrace Caribbean culture and artists and it’s more than putting on a show. It’s working around the whole artist and instead of going about making music but rather navigating the business of music. And Kenne is doing an awesome job and setting a standard.”

Kenne Blessin admitted that while there have been some ups and downs and a few disappointments in his career, he is going full throttle in order to reach his ultimate goal.

“Collaborating with major artists, landing a label, securing a distribution deal or all of the above,” he says. “That is going the ultimate goal. I feel I have the talent and the ability. Now its all about being in the right place and the right time and I’m prepared. It’s coming.”
