Mighty Casey stands victorious with new video for “True Champion (ft. Jah Bami)”

Reggaeville premieres first video from Casey’s Return of the Rudebwoy EP (available now – DubShot Records)

The video for Mighty Casey’s raucous anthem was filmed on location at 2018’s Notting Hill Carnival, and directed by Brooklyn (by way of Trinidad) recording artist, Metric Man. “I really wanted to capture the essence and energy of Carnival. I wanted to use London as a backdrop and focus on the Caribbean culture of London, not only for the Notting Hill Carnival, but for neighborhoods like Brixton and Hackney as well,” said Casey of the decision to use Europe’s largest annual street party as his video set. He continued, “‘True Champion’ is a song about having fun and being confident celebrating whatever you do.”

The 7-track Return of the Rudebwoy EP finds Mighty Casey teaming up with Trinidadian reggae star Jah Bami on 3 songs, including “True Champion,” “Rock Steady,” and the previously-released ode to ganja, “I Got That Weed.” Other notable features are Ras Kwame (artist and radio personality on UK’s Capital 1xtra) on the Orange Hill remix of “True Champion,” and Mannix (DubShot Records CEO) on the Knight Blade remix of “I Got That Weed.”

Return of the Rudebwoy is the follow-up to Mighty Casey’s 2003 album Original Rudebwoy, which featured his breakout single “White Girls.” The accompanying low-budget video received heavy rotation on BET: Uncut, a late night TV program intended for “mature” audiences. The BET video play led to the song’s placement in the Wayans Brothers’ movie White Chicks, which earned Casey an underground cult following. During his musical hiatus, Casey took time out to author the non-fiction book, Inside The CIA’s Secret War In Jamaica, an eye-opening account of the CIA’s nefarious dealings with the infamous Jamaican Shower Posse and the relating cocaine trade.
