NY launch for Richie Stephens gospel album – "God Is On My Side"
Veteran singer Richie Stephens is getting set to launch his new gospel album titled “God Is On My Side” in New York on Thursday, June 14, 2012. The 12 track disc, which was released on the VP Records imprint, includes powerful original songs like “God Is On My Side,” “Tears” and “In The Name of God.” It also features traditional gospel songs like “Why Me Lord,” “The Lord Is My Shepherd,” “Only A Fool” and “A Change Is Gonna Come.
The first single titled “Gospel Medley” from the album helped to establish Stephens as a credible gospel singer, while the second single “The Lord’s Prayer,” featuring Konshens is enjoying heavy rotation on both gospel and secular stations at home and in the Diaspora.
Stephens has had a whirlwind year since he and Gentleman released “Live Your Life” last summer. The song topped charts in Florida, Atlanta, Canada, Jamaica and other parts of the Caribbean and was voted “Song of the Year” on New York’s Irie Jam Radio ‘Top 100 Songs for 2011.’ He was recently honored with a “Lifetime Achievement Award at the third annual Linkage Awards in March, less than a month after he was presented with an ‘Achievement Award’ at the 16th annual Jamaica Jazz & Blues Festival in Trelawny for his twenty seven year contribution to the reggae industry.
Aside from getting awards, Stephens has been winning new fans with several electrifying performances in Germany, Holland, Portugal, Spain, Italy and Croatia where he was the special guest of Gentleman last year. His most memorable performance was before a crowd of 750,000 in Poland, at the biggest festival in the world — Woodstock.
Stephens kicked off 2012 in Jamaica with a memorable performance at the 16th annual Jazz & Blues Festival, the same night that pop singer Celine Dion delivered a historic performance at the festival. His next big outing will be as one of the headline performers at the inaugural adidas Jamboree in NY on June 9, 2012 with Shabba, Shaggy and Fayann Lyons.
