Midnight Groovers for OKTOBERFEST EN Kweyol 2013!
The sixth annual “Oktoberfest En Kweyol”, staged by Windward and Leeward Brewery Limited (WLBL) will have as the main act this year Midnight Groovers of Dominica.
“Oktoberfest en Kweyol” will be held on Sunday October 6 at Samaans Park and will feature local creole cuisine, a variety of world-class beers and “live” performances.
Organizers say that they are pleased to announce the inclusion of Midnight Groovers- “the original kings of cadence”-to the “Oktoberfest” stage.
Formed in 1972 as a combo band in Grand Bay, Dominica, the group was able to bridge a gap between Cadence and Calypso to present their own brand of music dubbed “Cadence-lypso.”
With a solid and cultural musical style, Midnight Groovers have created commercial success with their rhythmic sounds, playing to huge crowds in their homeland as well as in the French Antilles and Saint Lucia where they are very popular. The band has also toured extensively throughout the various continents.
Although much of the original members have changed, Midnight Groovers continue to empower the world through the voice of lead singer “Chubby” Phillip Mark and the king of instruments, brother Marcel “Ko” Mark. And with more than thirty albums under their belt and a string of hits songs as part of their repertoire including “Pou Yon Koko,” “Milk and Honey” and “Mandella” to name a few, the group can still rock any festival stage.
The entertainment for “Oktoberfest en Kweyol” this year will also include the reigning champion party band of Saint Lucia DYP as well as traditional groups Mamai Lacaye, Secret Band and Avot Servis. The event will also feature the Harmonite Steel Band, Lighting dancers, Ricky T, MC Pringles and the 2013 Piton Soca Starz winner Soca Bandit, the “Pork sauce” man.
This year “Oktoberfest en Kweyol” will feature six international beers as the highlight, including the Oktoberfest beer Paulaner Beer, Amstel Extra, Parbo Beer, Bulmers Pear Cider, Desperado Red and Affligem Blond.
“Oktoberfest en Kweyol” is endorsed by the Folk Research Center and the Saint Lucia Tourist Board and sponsored by LIME, Landmark Event and the official media partners the Wave, DBS and RCI.
