PHOENIX
Phoenix Francisco realized her love for the performing arts at the tender age of six. Being the third daughter of Dr. Slinger Francisco a.k.a the Mighty Sparrow, Calypso King of the World, Phoenix grew up in a household surrounded by rhythm and talented musicians. As a result, her life revolved around the stage and learning from the many legends her father worked with. Through these experiences she developed and cultivated her love for all genres of music and for her Trinidadian heritage, including her father’s many musical contributions.
For eleven years Phoenix performed as a vocalist in the annual National Music Festival (Trinidad and Tobago). She also studied under great artists such as classical pianist, the late Treasure LaChapelle (concert pianist), Ava Agarde (folk musician) and renowned opera singer & Harlem based choir teacher, Lorna Mae Myers.
Migrating to New York City at nineteen years old, Phoenix pursued a degree in Film Production with a concentration in screenwriting at Brooklyn College (New York). During her first semester, she quickly made an impression on her teachers when she landed roles in two major plays, an opportunity traditionally offered to acting majors. As a junior she was asked to design costumes for a play in Brooklyn College by the Theater Department; the result was a complete success adding the title costume designer to her many talents. After graduating cum laude, she revisited her first love, singing, and accepted an offer to do background vocals for a reggae group called, The Fingees.
To date, Phoenix continues to write her own material while pursuing her singing career. Writing credits also include Wine in De Place (co-written for Alison Hinds and Uncle Sam – released August 2008, produced by De Red Boyz – Barbados, on RBZ record label).
Recently, Phoenix debuted at Club Maracas (Queens, NY) with her original single track entitled So Twisted (Produced by Phillip Nichols – Philjloton Recordings & Re-mixed by Stephen Suckarie – New Kingston Music ); currently she is preparing to release the highly anticipated Groovy Soca tune Tipsy (Produced by Stephen Suckarie – New Kingston Music) and the jouvert inspired Hypnotize (Produced by Metronome Records – Grenada). Currently she is booked for several appearances for Trinidad & Tobago Carnival 2012 to include a charitable event at Cyril Ross Nursery-February 15 (Tunapuna, Trinidad) and Moonlighting Boatride –February 23 (aboard the Coral Vision- P.O.S
