MIAMI – Hit 97.3’s DJ Laz and Hot 105’s Jill Tracey will host a DJ Battle at the 3rd Annual Art of Transformation’s Art, Food & Music Street Festival on Saturday, Nov. 15th, 2014, 7:00PM-10:00PM. Both of the Radio Royalties will serve as judges for the battle in downtown Opa-locka as local DJs battle for airplay on 97.3, featured press, $500 cash, and the title of “Art of Transformation’s Master DJ for 2014.”
“The street festival is the premiere community event for this year’s Art of Transformation, and the DJ Battle adds an element of grassroots excitement as local contestants go head-to-head to earn the title of Master DJ,” said Opa-locka Community Development Corporation President, Dr. Willie Logan. “As we celebrate Opa-locka’s past, present, and bright future, the OLCDC is thrilled to include art, food, music and people – elements that help make it a true community of choice.”
To enter the contest, DJs must submit an online application, including a three to five minute SoundCloud or YouTube link of their best mix, by 12 p.m. on Oct. 24. All SoundCloud and YouTube links will then be posted on www.opalockaart.com/djs and www.facebook.com/opalockaart from Oct. 24 through 11:59 p.m. on Oct. 31, for the public to vote for their favorite D.J. At the end of the voting window, the six (6) DJs with the highest number of “Likes” will advance to the LIVE Semi-Finals at the Street Festival on Nov. 15. There, the six (6) DJs will each perform a five-minute set on stage. The three (3) with the highest points awarded by the judges will advance to the Finals and perform a three-minute set to be then narrowed down to the Top 2 based on audience applause. The final showdown is between the final two (2) DJs standing. The last round of three-minute sets and audience applause will determine who claims the title “Art of Transformation’s Master DJ for 2014!”
The criteria: To be eligible, DJs must at least be 18 years old, an amateur DJ, and a resident of South Florida (Broward, Miami-Dade, Monroe, and Palm Beach Counties). All applications submitted after 12 p.m. on Oct. 24 and all “Likes” submitted after the voting window closes on Oct. 31 will not be considered.
The contest: During performances, contestants are free to use any equipment and software they choose in order to enhance the set. Contestants will only be allowed two turntables and a microphone. No profanity or degrading language on clothing or in set is allowed. No logos on clothing, unless a personal DJ logo (with rights), will be permitted. Although crowd interaction is encouraged and judged upon, contestants in the Semi-Finals and Finals must remain on the stage during their set(s). Additionally, no one other than the contestant will be allowed on stage during the performance.
