  • Jamelody Celebrates Birthday Amid Tremendous Accomplishments

Even T&T reggae crooner Jamelody knows when it’s time to give thanks for the blessings of life, kick back a little and enjoy another year of the Almighty God’s grace. Today, Michael ‘Jamelody’ Williams celebrates his birthday. The artiste who is preparing for what is likely to be an exciting and fast paced 2013, returned from Jamaica recently where he wrapped production of a single with prominent reggae and dancehall artiste, Capleton. Amid that, he is currently promoting the release of a track entitled, ‘I Love You’, which is currently available on iTunes for worldwide purchase.

Jamelody’s God given gift of vocal distinction is especially appreciated as he celebrates his birthday today. He is reminded of his accomplishments and is thankful for the support received by his fans, friends and fellow entertains across the world. His recent visit to Jamaica afforded the opportunity to work with a number of producers, among them Ace out of Bobby Digital’s Digital B studio who produced ‘I Love You’ and producer extraordinaire, Calibudalso of Digital B studio, who recorded the single done with Capleton. That track is set for release in mid-January. Calibud described the T&T reggae singer as extraordinary- explaining that he feels Jamelody is in a class of his own. “He blends in so well in Jamaica but he is really in a class of his own and he has his own space in the industry. With more time spent in Jamaica, he will secure his space in the market,” said a confident Calibud. The Jamaican producer has produced the remake of the War riddim, which featured Bob Marley’s single, War. On it are artistes such as Taurus Riley, Shabba Ranks, Bushman and Cutty Ranks who collaboratively do the remake of Marley’s ‘War’. On the riddim, Jamelody sings with Capleton for what is expected to be a one of a kind contribution.

Ambitious as he is, the T&T artiste who hails from Carenage in West Trinidad, was able to work on approximately five singles while in Jamaica and having returned to Trinidad, he now has a short window of opportunity to relax on his birthday with friends and family. The recent release of VP records’ Strictly The Best 46 album in the United States has seen Jamelody’s single ‘Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You’, accompany the music of hit-makers like Jah Cure and other top billing acts, automatically signaling the high caliber of artistes alongside whom he is ranked.

Pleased with his ongoing journey in the world of music, the young entertainer who proudly represents Trinidad and Tobago, continues to work hard in a bid to become a household name in the worldwide reggae market. Still, even amid the hard work he’s been putting in, he takes this time to give thanks for his blessings and certainly wish everyone a safe and enjoyable holiday season, in the same breath calling on fans to anticipate a tremendous catalogue of new music in the New Year.

  • Karlie Redd To Get Sexy With No Draws And Chocolate This J’ouvert

USReality TV star, KarlieRedd is on her way to Trinidad. The woman who shot to fame when she was cast on the spin off of VH1’s Love and Hip Hop Atlanta last year, is coming back to Trinidad where she spent a large part of her childhood, and is excited more than anything else, to play J’ouvert this Carnival.

Redd who is also a model, singer, songwriter and television personality who owns her own hair weave product line called Redd Hairline, will be on board the Coral Vision with the trio of No Draws and Chocolate, Strawberries and Chocolate and Chronicles J’ouvert- a band that is offering sensuality and seduction this J’ouvert.

On the weekend, as the J’ouvert band kicked its promotional campaign into high gear, Redd told her liaisons in Trinidad that she wanted to be a part of it. “What we’re doing is merging three very unique packages to create one very enjoyable J’ouvert band – a band that is going down the unconventional road by doing J’ouvert at sea and then taking to the streets when we return at 6am. It’s like a pre party but truth be told- patrons will be smothered in chocolate by the time they dock at 6am,” said an organizer. It was also noted that the early return would allow for masqueraders who need to head home to prepare for Carnival Monday on the road, to do this.

No Draws and Chocolate has been around for the past three years and annually, the experience leaves masqueraders craving for a longer chipping period through the streets of the city. “When we say we’re giving you 10 artistes, we’re giving you that. When we guarantee you a good time- that’s what you get,” said the rep for the band. Registration has been going quite well, according to the representative. “We’re catering for 700 patrons as we plan on keeping this thing tight and jam packed with fun and smiles all morning long. The boat boards at 2am and sails at 3am from the Waterfront in Port-of-Spain. The package is $399 for an all-inclusive experience. Ptarons can choose from one of three sections in the band and really it’s just a choice of t-shirt. Strawberries and Chocolate tees are pink and white, No Draws and Chocolate is brown and white, and Chronicles J’ouvert is Orange.”

KarlieRedd’s desire to play in the band has increased the momentum – this as the band continues its online promotional campaign. Local entertainment website etceterabuzz.com is part sponsor of the experience and judging from the site’s successful Pan on the Greens lime hosted two Sundays ago, many are looking forward to another tremendous experience on J’ouvert morning.

  • Star-Studded Line-Up For Saint Licia Jazz & Arts Festival

Star-Studded Line-Up For Saint Licia Jazz & Arts Festival
Organizers announce new artistic direction for the region’s premiere musical spectacle

Sporting a new name complete with eye-catching logo and a redefined artistic direction, the Caribbean island of Saint Lucia is gearing up to once again welcome the world, as it inaugurates the next chapter in the life of the region’s most anticipated musical festival.

Now dubbed the ‘Saint Lucia Jazz and Arts Festival’, the 13-day event is expected to attract thousands to the iconic and historic Pigeon Island National Landmark, where the bulk of the festival events will unfold. With its new infusion of arts, scores of artisans, entertainers and cultural enthusiasts will take centre stage at scenic vistas across the island.

At a made for television and radio press launch at the awarding winning Sandals Grande St. Lucian Spa and Beach Resort on January 31, it was announced that the revamped festival, now into its 22nd year, will feature some of the best live performances mixed-in with various artistic portrayals from acclaimed local artisans.
Speaking on the new and broadened festival outreach, Tourism Minister Lorne Theophilus noted “That after setting the musical benchmark for over two decades, Saint Lucia as a destination needed to redefine not only itself, but critically its flagship special events activity. According to Minister Theophilus, “As we seek to implement our new strategic focus, it became necessary to forge closer linkages between the traditional festival line-up and a now burgeoning creative industries sector.”

Addressing a captive and anticipative audience, Tourism Director Louis Lewis remarked that the redefined festival still boasts an impressive star-studded list of performers designed to satisfy the most discerning music aficionados. “While certain aspects of the festival needed to be redefined, its over two decade history of attracting some of the most recognizable and sought after names in the music business remains, intact,” says Lewis.

The Saint Lucia Jazz and Arts Festival will comprise over fifty (50) artistes performing against some of the best backdrop locales this side of the hemisphere, from the signature Atlantic Ocean backdrop of the Pigeon Island National Landmark, to quaint and rustic village settings like Fond d’Or Heritage Park in Dennery; Rudy John Beach Park in Laborie; and the tranquil Port Castries waterfront setting of the Pointe Seraphine Duty Free Shopping complex. The 2013 Jazz and Arts Festival will also see the much awaited return of the popular ‘Jazz on the Square’ in the heart of the Capital city Castries and a return to the picturesque open-air venue of Balenbouche Estate in the South.

The festival will open with much fanfare on April 30 at the ‘people’s auditorium’ – the Mindoo Phillip Park – to a line-up that will be announced shortly. From the get go, the musical presentations are unrivalled with Caribbean jazz, creole collaborations and African infused funky rhythms that can only be found on the unique stellar lineup of Jazz in the South, Fond d’Or and the Derek Walcott Square.

The festival’s new listings of artistic activities that will incorporate Drama & Dance, Steel Pan, Spoken Words, Fashion Shows and other cultural extravaganzas will follow at key venues stretching from the northern town of Gros-Islet to Vieux Fort in the South. “Several of our traditional community celebrations like the Friday night street parties, culturally rich Fish-Fries, our creole music and the like will be woven in the fabric of the redefined Jazz and Arts Festival and showcased in all their splendor in a made-for-export fresh and exciting way,” says Deputy Director of Tourism Tracey Warner Arnold.

Performances at the Gaiety on Rodney Bay on May 8 & 9 will feature Trinidadian born Trumpet player Etienne Charles; Cuban jazz pianist Roberto Fonseca; contemporary jazz bands from the French Antilles Fal Frett and electric guitarist The John Scofield Uberjam Band. Main stage activities at the Pigeon Island National Landmark will begin on Friday May 10, with performances from R&B multi-platinum American singer, songwriter, dancer and actor Ginuwine; Saint Lucian songwriter and producer ACE and the iconic American popular music family group from Gary, Indiana The Jacksons.

Headlining the spanking new Saint Lucia Jazz and Arts Festival is celebrated multiple Grammy-winner R&B mega star singer-songwriter, and record producer Robert Sylvester Kelly, more popularly known as R Kelly. Kelly has established his name on the music scene as the King of R&B with dozens of chart topping hits. Other musical hard-hitters include the legendary Ojays; acclaimed Caribbean maestro David Rudder, bandleader and mambo musician Tito Puente Jr.; celebrated guitarist and singer Ronald ‘Boo’ Hinkson and accomplished Senegalese-American hip-hop recording artist, songwriter and record producer Akon.

The 2013 festival which is presented by the Saint Lucia Tourist Board and is supported by Platinum sponsor Digicel along with other Gold, Bronze and Collateral sponsors, culminates on the traditional Mother’s Day, May 12.

  • Jamaican Gospel Singer Breezy Mckenley Ready For The Road

After spending much of 2012 focusing on promotion, Jamaica based gospel singer, Breezy Mckenley says he is now ready to go on the road. The artist who has garnered quite a following from doing tributes and cover songs (all gospel), has put a solid live show together and is making himself available to promoters and booking agents both here in Jamaica and overseas.

Breezy began making music at age 20 while residing in the United Kingdom, where he grew up (he left Jamaica at age 10 when his mother relocated to the UK). His inspiration for creating music came from time spent listening to artist like Fats Domino, someone he admires greatly. He got his start after meeting a singer by the name of Joe “sweet voice” Francis, who took him to the studio and allowed him to record his first track for only 5 pounds. As soon as the song was released, Breezy was invited to perform in several churches where he overwhelmed his audience with both his message and his musical style. His songs began to sell in numbers through the various denominations and he immediately got a solid fan base.

When his mother returned back to Jamaica (years later), Breezy joined her and has been on the island ever since. He continued to pursue his career vigorously while in Jamaica and began to capture the attention of key persons in the gospel industry. Breezy Mckenley has been featured on some key gospel radio programs in Jamaica and the USA and has performed at a number of gospel events local and abroad.

He has spent the last couple of years in the studio recording new material, and whenever possible he gets out and does media promotions. Another thing Breezy and his team have been working on quietly is his live show. They have now put a set together that they are ready to take on the road.

With carnival merely a week and a half away, one J’ouvert band is ready and rearing to go. The streets are calling- this according to Chocolate City bandleader, ZarinMorean who is excitedly welcoming new and old patrons to the band. He says registration has been going well and vouches strongly for the high level of enjoyment masqueraders will be privy to on J’ouvert morning this year.

Over the years, Chocolate City has offered J’ouvert lovers something worthwhile. Chocolate is the main ingredient used in attracting masqueraders but mixed with a strong dose of fun, an all-inclusive package which delivers an unbeatable premium bar, tasty breakfast and a cast of 94.1FM DJs and radio personalities, the overall experience has continued to receive the support of many with rave reviews. “We sell that ‘differentology’ that Bunji speaks of in his song. It’s something really different- something that puts every masquerader in a zone that makes them forget the stresses of life and for one morning- in the wee hours of that morning, to just chip their worries away,” said Morean.

The band is a favourite for many visitors coming in from abroad. “There are people who aren’t into the mud, the paint etc, so we’re giving them a sweeter option,” said Morean. The concept has continued to work and with good service meted out to patrons, Chocolate City continues to prove that it is certainly a band that sets the pace in J’ouvert.

This year, the band is themed Total Recall and with that comes a few surprises, which will be revealed on the road come J’ouvert morning. The band’s website – www.chocolatecitycarnival.com is maneuverable and even allows for online payment. “We don’t want anyone to miss this chance to play with Chocolate City in 2013. They’ll regret it and we don’t want them to,” he laughed.

  • Fantasy Mas Band Ready To Dominate Carnival 2013

After a successful 2012 debut, Trinidad and Tobago Carnival band Fantasy is ready to make 2013 a landmark year of growth and development.

In an age and industry where arts and entertainment outlets come a dime a dozen and the shelf life of most creative entities can be as little as one year, Fantasy has positioned itself to be the new ‘it band’ in the eyes of several Carnival addicts and Soca Junkies.

Although considered by some to be the ‘new band on the block’, Fantasy is comprised of many notable names, faces and brands in the local and Caribbean entertainment sector. Its members and stakeholders have been involved with and have contributed to over 16 years of invaluable service to Trinbago’s culture and entertainment circuit.

Thus far the Fantasy team members have harnessed their collective skill sets into bringing forth a top-class, premium Carnival product i.e. Fantasy the mas band.

Fantasy started off Carnival 2013 with major impact in the form of its Savage Saturday cooler fete which not only was one of the first grand events of the 2013 season but it also attracted audiences from all over T&T who came out in their numbers to experience the first performance of Machel Montano who delivered all of his C2K13 hits.

As Fantasy prepares for its second Carnival Monday and Tuesday presentation entitled “Savage” mas fans anticipate this year as the year that the band rises to the top of the Carnival mas ranks.
Already boasting numerous sell out events, a thriving J’ouvert band and considered amongst the top 3 sought after bands in T&T Carnival, it is quite evident that Fantasy is geared to do nothing less than dominate.

Clients will sit above New York’s fashion lined streets in the second floor salon while experiencing one of the many services LASIO STUDIOS will offer its clientele, including cuts, color, styling, extensions, eyelash extensions, makeup, and of course LASIO Keratin Treatments. Clients will be privy to customized personal services with complimentary hand and head massages, and, for an even more luxurious experience, clients will be able to book services in the Luxe Lounge; a private suite within the LASIO STUDIOS salon. From brides to executives, and men as well, LASIO STUDIOS is the ultimate escape into a world of luxury, relaxation, and beauty.
