L3 Magazine Presents: Jamaica’s Singing Melody, Da Professor and the Ultimate Backup!
Canada’s leading Caribbean-Urban online publication, L3 Magazine, brings in the New Year with their highly anticipated January edition which highlights the new album of one of Reggae’s most trusted voices, Singing Melody, new generation Reggae artist Da Professor, and Zakada Milton weighs with the Ultimate Backup!
Interviewed in Jamaica, Singing Melody is excited to give fans his 7th studio album, They Call Me Mr. Melody which sees the artist collaborate with U Roy, Lymie Murray, Stacious and L.U.S.T. The album marks the artists triumphant return to centre stage with his first solo album in 5 years.
When we caught up with Mr. Melody, we talked music, the early days of his career and what he means to fans. We also discuss the producers who contributed to his album whom Melody says “reflects the quality music I want to share with fans!”
Our interview with Da Professor, also done in Jamaica, marks the journalistic debut of Tricia Spence (see the ‘Welcome Matte’ below) who goes one on one with the artist on being young within the industry, working closely with heavy hitter Don Corleone as well as life growing up with eight, yes eight siblings!
Our final feature covers a topic you don’t hear about too often, yet still, is essential to the vitality of music, and that’s the back-up singer. Often forgotten by the industry, Zakada Milton profiles why backup singers are essential to music, and she also shares some of the famous to super famous people who began their long and fruitfull careers as backup singers and vocalists!
Rounding out our folds is Heike Wollenweber whose coverage of Art Basel in Miami gives readers an up close and personal look at the coveted art movement. Heike also introduces us to the musical talents of Trackstarr. Ayeola George brings us a snapshot of an important Caribbean piece of literature which is wrapped in the book A Journey into Our Caribbean Past by Eric A. Llewellyn.
Cayman Islands own Chuck Taylor (see ‘Welcome Matte’ below) brings us the top 10 music charts which is a reflection of who’s hot in the Reggae and Dancehall scene. The neighboring island of Haiti’s finest are also highlighted, not by song title, but by artist! Who makes the cut and who doesn’t?! Chuck Taylor is the Program director at Hot 104.1 FM in the Cayman Islands, as well as Cayrock 96.5 FM. Having been in the music industry for the past 20 years, Chuck’s background and experience become an asset to readers as he shares unique stories on players in the industry. Chuck will also contribute the official L3 Top 10 Chart representing what’s hitting in the Cayman Islands.
