Project Education announces its 2014 Distinguished Service Award Honorees
BROOKLYN, NY—Project Education, the New York-based organization that assists disadvantaged Saint Lucian families in obtaining necessary school supplies, announced that its annual Saint Lucian Breakfast for Education will be held on Sunday, July 13, 2014 from 10:00AM to 1:00PM at the Saint Lucia House, located at 438 E 49th Street, between Church and Snyder Avenues in Brooklyn.
Given this year’s theme, “Call to Action; Country above Self,” the presentation of the Project Education Distinguished Service Awards will headline the event. These awards will be conferred on outstanding individuals to recognize their remarkable service to the children of Saint Lucia. This year, there are four honorees. Mrs. Jennifer King is a lifelong educator at the Canon Laurie Anglican School, a former Physical Education instructor at Corinth Secondary School, and a national netballer, coach, and umpire. Mr. Adrian Fanus is an ardent supporter of Saint Lucian-related initiatives in the Diaspora and a Project Education benefactor. Ms. Dannette Sampson is a dedicated community organizer and Project Education benefactor, an active member of the Saint Lucia United Association, the oldest Saint Lucian group in New York. The Saint Lucian American Christian Association, a supporter of several seventh day Adventist schools and projects around the island. Ms. Alene Mathurine is the founder of 200backpacks.com, a project that provided needy children in her former community with school supplies.
“As we celebrate our fourth year of giving back to our beloved Saint Lucia,” said Jeremiah Hyacinth, Project Education founder,“we remain indebted to those who play an integral role in the spheres of education and community development. We are therefore thrilled to honor these inspirational individuals as this year’s Distinguished Service Award recipients.”
Project Education was launched in 2010 in New York City and gives overseas-based Saint Lucians and friends an opportunity to help students and their families in Saint Lucia. Through the generosity of donors, Project Education has empowered over 1200 students in Saint Lucia by providing them with donated school supplies that their families would otherwise have difficulty purchasing.
Admission to the Saint Lucian Breakfast for Education event is $30.
