Fya Empress – True Vincy (Vincy Mas 2012)
Singer and songwriter Fya Empress hails from the beautiful island of St. Vincent but has been an ambassador and resident of Tobago for the past 15 years. Whilst no stranger to the stage, she has quickly risen to prominence throughout the Caribbean for her contribution on this year’s Born Bad riddim produced by Alex Barnwell with a track titled “Sak Passe.” Her performance of the single landed her 3rd place in this year’s St. Vincent Ragga Monarch competition and has been hitting up the airwaves across the soca music scene. Her previous singles No Money No Wuk and Water have also made quite an impact during St. Vincent’s carnival season and remain two of her most heavily rotated singles.
Fya Empress performs regularly at several hotels in Tobago together with versatile husband and vocalist David Reid a.k.a Mr. Fusion. The duo performs together under the name “Fire Fusion” and although they are both based in Tobago they venture to St. Vincent each year to participate in the island’s festival and its many competitions. Fya Empress’ most recent release VIP Ladies and go dj produced by Slaughter Arts from St. Lucia is already a favorite amongst females. Fya Empress is also the reigning Tobago Soca Monarch in which she and her husband has won for three years, her eyes are set on upcoming performances in Toronto, London and across the Caribbean. On a mission to develop her sound and a hunger to show the world what this Vincy, Trinbagonian beauty has to offer, also she has recently won the International Soca Awards 2011 as the Best Female Soca Artiste with the song No Money No Wuk . The International Soca Awards will be held on Saturday 26th November 2011 at (NAPA) National Academy for the Performing Arts in the Lord Kitchener’s Calypso Auditorium in Trinidad. Now the versatile songstress has spread her wings even further by entering the calypso arena with the social commentary, “I Am Woman” which she captured the Tobago calypso queen 2012 on Saturday the 29th January then went on to napa in Trinidad to capture the national calypso queen on Monday the 31st January which was a memorable achievement for her and her back bone, Mr. Fusion. Fya Empress is definitely a female artiste on the rise.
