Established in his own right, Teetimus da producer is well known amongst music circles for his cutting edge sound and avante garde ear for matching artists with multi-genre sounds. Teetimus’s newest project is no exception to this standard as he’s the first producer to make Vybz Kartel ‘pop!’

Merging Pop with Techno and a splash of electronic, Teetimus (as the producer) lays the musical groundwork for Vybz Kartel to deliver one of his most well received cross-over performances in the song called “U.F.O. MEDZ” which features the Dancehall King and Teetimus the Rockstar.

Recently released to the worlds’ most prominent DJ’s, initial feedback to the song exceeded the teams expectations. “We knew the DJ’s were going to like the track” said Teetimus from his recording studio in New York, “but we didn’t expect it to be so well received by the Pop and Techno audience. Vybz Kartel did a great job with the track – he really is dih teacha!”

For Vybz Kartel, shying away from a track so forward thinking for the Pop genre was not an option. The artist recorded his vocals in Jamaica prior to incarceration and expressed that the Pop / Electronica sound will allow him to gain fans of a wider background. “Teetimus approached me with this track and the result is great. I stayed true to Dancehall while working with a new genre. Fans are going to appreciate it.”

Already available on iTunes, the track has gained a lot of traction with sites such as, and The preview, available on YouTube, is one of the most searched, marking another sign that the single is on deck to being a hit.

No stranger to success, Teetimus the Rockstar earned several accolades as the co-producer of Damian ‘Jr. Gong’ Marley’s 2012 hit song “Affairs of the Heart,” Trey Songz “Ladies Gone Wild” and Mr. Vegas “Bruk It Dung,” and is in negotiations to produce a track for a very prominent and Grammy award winning female rapper.

  • Newcomers Delight In Soca Success – Thank DJ’s For The Guidance Over The Years

Despite the fact that for three years, two young, budding Soca artistes faced defeat when their music failed to get the desired airplay at radio stations across the country, they are saying DJ’s have over the years, advised them well.

Kenman and Chico are a dynamic musical pair out of the San Juan area of Trinidad. Ahead of Carnival 2013 on the island, the duo has struck gold with a single called Chippin In A Band. The song has been receiving the warm embrace of radio personalities and their DJ’s and according to the pair, this is all thanks to their personal acceptance of the constructive criticism they’ve received over the years.

Kenman, real name, Kenwyn Cuffy, is eager for the possibilities that lie in wait. Likewise, his partner in music, Chico- real name, Ashton John, is assuring that their on stage antics will leave party lovers in a frenzy. “What we bring to a stage is real entertainment,” he said, adding that promoters and patrons can expect nothing short of a mind-blowing performance.

With plans to simply allow this single to penetrate as best as possible, both Kenman and Chico will hold off on doing any other singles ahead of the carnival season. The level of airplay they’ve been receiving has come as quite a pleasant surprise to them both and so, with a strategic process set in their minds, the young duo plan on making their C2K13 contribution a memorable one.

Admitting that the melody of the track is the secret behind its success thus far, Kenman says he is happy to see that the single is being enjoyed by both the young and mature. “The melody is really nice and people seem to be enjoying that more than anything else. We are really grateful for the love we’ve been getting and we plan on keeping the momentum going,” he said.

Chippin In A Band was produced by San Juan based, Twistline Productions and written by both artistes. In this, their seventh year in the music business of Trinidad and Tobago, the duo is undoubtedly basking in the success achieved thus far, ahead of the Carnival season.

With tremendous admiration for Soca hit-maker, Machel Montano, both artistes are aspiring to be like the veteran entertainer. “Machel has really shown us that hard work is the key to success. He never stops at ‘ok’- he always goes for the best and we would love to work with him one day,” said Kenman. Complete with a dance crew known as the Fusion crew, Kenman and Chico are looking forward to what they feel will be a successful season ahead. “We’re just happy that our song is getting the airplay. We plan on making the best of that and just going hard into the season. Like Machel, we won’t stop at ‘ok’- we want to give the best and get the best results in return,” said Chico.

  • Wayne Wonder’s First Album In 6 Years

25 years deep, 12 albums strong, the GRAMMY-nominated reggae pop star will release his first album in six years, My Way, on December 4 off his own label Singso Music. Recorded in his primary residency of Florida as well his native country of Jamaica, Kingston meets Miami on this 14-track opus.

Wayne Wonder recently appeared on the nationally syndicated morning TV show THE DAILY BUZZ to perform his latest single “Drop It Down Low” and talk about the new album.

My Way features guest vocals from Shaggy (“Don’t Say No”) and r&b sensation Mya (“If I Ever”) and is filled with irresistible island rhythms (“This Time,” “Put Your Drinks Up” and “Overall”), sensuous r&b gems (“Anne Lou” and “All About You”) and vibrant dance anthems (“Caught Up,” “Drop It Down Low“ and “Sweet Dreams”).

Wonder breathes new life to his sound, while he stays true to his signature blend of pulsating rhythms, catchy hooks and flawless velvety vocals. This is the winning formula that catapulted him to the national spotlight in 2003: earning him a live performance on NBC’s Saturday Night Live,a MOBO Award for Best New Reggae Artist, one of year’s biggest hits “No Letting Go” (peaking at #11 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart) and a GRAMMY nomination for Best Reggae Album on No Holding Back (Atlantic Records).

“The album has some new twists. I make sure my sound is updated like a MacBook Pro, but I’m sticking to what I do best. I’m a lover at heart, so that is what I sing about and why my fans have grown to love me. I’m all about positivity and creating these vibes,” states Wonder.

Wayne Wonder rallied top producers – Kingston’s Tony Kelly (who co-produced Wonder’s Grammy- nominated album No Holding Back), Stephen Genius McGregor, Dre Day, Freelancer as well as Miami-based Riddim Fingaz (credits include Trey Songz, Sean Paul, Mya) – to form a polished set of sweet serenades and sexy club bangers.

Since his self-titled debut album in 1987, the Portland native, born Von Wayne Charles, has been responsible for an extraordinary catalog of reggae hits including “Saddest Day,” “Bonafide Love (Movie Star)” ft. Buju Banton, “Love And Affection” and “No Letting Go.” In 2003, he made major waves in U.S. when his latter single topped urban radio and his album No Holding Back debuted at #29 on Billboard Hot 200 chart. His later albums led to collaborations with numerous artists including Foxy Brown, Trina, TLC’s Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes and CNN: Capone & N.O.R.E. His last studio release, 2007’s Foreva (VP), debuted at #6 on the Billboard Top Reggae Albums chart. My Way is a celebration of Wayne’s return and his full creative control over the entire process after departing from VP Records.

“My Way is more personal to me than my previous albums because it was done on my terms, so I never felt limited. I was blessed to have a talented team of musicians, engineers and producers working by my side. I’m proud of the final product and can’t wait for fans to hear what I’ve been working on over the years,” concludes Wonder.

Indeed, last to take the stage was Congresswoman Yvette Clarke who presented William “Bunny Rugs” Clark with the ‘Outstanding Contribution to Reggae Music’ award as a member of Third World and as a solo artist. With the entire ballroom on their feet, Rugs performed “Now That We’ve Found Love” and “Reggae Ambassador” all backed by DC’s #1 backing group, the Image Band. Despite many political ambassadors in attendance, Bunny Rugs struck a chord with everyone, many of whom waited patiently for a photograph alongside the ‘reggae ambassador’.

“The CARAH awards will forever stay with me as one of the high points of my career,” said Bunny Rugs. “To be honored in this way, in a ceremony created by and for Caribbean people is really the ultimate award. For the same reason, I dedicate this award to the Caribbean people to whom I am forever indebted.”

The album is now available in stores and features the roots reggae anthem, “Land We Love”.

Few members of the Jamaican Entertainment fraternity have been continuously riding the wave of success quite like Konshens, since his debut in 2005 which was by popular demand, initiated in Japan; destined for success you may say. 2012 has been really great to Konshens, he was featured on Reality series conceptualized by model Tyra Banks – America’s Next Top Model, he toured Uganda to glorious receptions, released the Mental Maintenance album which topped charts around the world, places like Japan and Germany readily comes to mind.
In the track Konshens reflects on the hard work that it took to allow him to enjoy his current success and reaffirms his belief in the supreme being and in those age old sayings; ‘who God bless no man curse’ and ‘wah fi be haffi be’. There should never be a question about the artistes view on loyalty; in various lines throughout the track he echoes sentiments of embracing not only the loyalty of those around him but also those who played a positive impact on the musical journey that he embarked on years ago.

“Working with Konshens was a great experience” commented a notably pleased Razz, he went on to explain that “Konshens is a very focused artiste, he knows and understands the concept of hard work and does not hesitate to get straight to work when in the studio”. Since launching the Razz & Biggy Music label the duo has worked on productions such as their ‘First Born Riddim’ and other singles.

The song was exclusively premiered on the duos fifth mixtape effort for 2012 titled ‘One More Year’. “It was only fitting to use our mixtape to premiere it” commented Biggy when asked about the choice to use that medium to launch the song.

•An aspiring producer has the opportunity to provide a “riddim” built from scratch for

Du Bois which will accompany his vocals. Competitors should be between ages 18 – 30 and may reside in any part of the world.

When the idea to host a series of competitions crossed Kerwin Du Bois’ mind, he was unprepared for the tremendous support that he is currently receiving. The idea to give “youths” the opportunity to make a name for themselves in the industry has been playing in his mind from quite some time and it became mandatory in his books to offer a platform for those interested.

“I know the struggle and I understand the frustrations that we as creative people have when trying to make a name for ourselves” said Du Bois. He added, “While it is not an easy road, if I can open a door or two for talented youths I am going to do that.” In saying that Du Bois is sharing two things with you; Pressure Cooker will take place post carnival and the stakes have gotten higher.

His explanations are quite simple, because of the overwhelming support from both hopeful competitors and established artistes who are now interested in getting involved the competition. That’s right, more established artistes means more opportunities for those interested in competing. “A lot of my colleagues in the industry approached me when they heard of the competition and expressed their interest in wanting to provide opportunities as well” shared Du Bois.

Pressure-Cooker remains the brainchild of Du Bois and he remains devoted to providing opportunities where he can for upcoming talents. Sit tight, as soon as Trinidad and Tobago’s carnival is over all the relevant information will be made available to all interested parties.

Kerwin believes in the best and always aims to give his best…this competition is no different.

  • T&T Production House Lends A Hand In Inspiring With Positivity

Music is the perfect vehicle for transmitting messages to the world at large. That’s what T&T based production house, Jahlight Records bears in mind each time a project is undertaken at their studio. In December, the team’s 2012 musical masterpiece- the Seize The Day riddim, will be unleashed. On the riddim are some very talented and inspired reggae vocalists- Queen Omega, Fyakin, Jah Defender, Zally, Jah Van I, Roxy Singh, Fireson Bantu and Martinique’s Djama Keita. Collectively, the artistes on this riddim have made a concerted effort to preach positivity through sweet reggae music and the creators at Jahlight Records are highly optimistic of the result this project will have.

With business transactions already set through a fostered relationship with BFM Digital, the riddim will be available across the world on December 4 via iTunes, Amazon, Juno and other digital retailers. The seven songs on the riddim are ‘Who Feels It Knows It’ by Queen Omega and Fyakin, ‘Journey’ by Jah Defender, ‘Unite’ by Zally, ‘Accomplishment’ by Djama Keita, ‘Never Had’ by Roxy Singh and ‘Celebrate’, sung by Fireson Bantu. According to Akeunde Pemberton of Jahlight Records, the idea behind the riddim was to inform the world that opportunities must be seized, as time is precious and should not be wasted. “We can’t afford to take life and time for granted. While the sun shines, make haste. The most valuable opportunity we have is to get to know Christ and with that understood, we just can’t wait until our time is up and it’s too late,” he said. His sentiment is echoed in the lyrical delivery of each of the artistes on the riddim.

Already, a video has been done for one of the tracks- that being Martinique’s very own Djama Keita’s track, Love Mama Earth. By all reports, the video and single are doing very well internationally. Besides that, Zally’s single on the riddim, ‘Unite’ saw him attain the crown in the Reggae Earth United Competition 2012 and so, the Seize the Day Riddim was obviously the champion riddim that delivered a champion in 2012.

Jahlight Records continues to work hard at establishing a unique and enjoyed reggae sound for all artistes worked with. The Seize The Day Riddim is their final reggae riddim for 2012 and the feeling at the production house is that this riddim will be the next best production from Jahlight Records since their 2011 accomplishment via the Passover riddim of which Queen Omega and Roxy Singh were both a part.

Ahead of 2013, the production house looks toward additional projects. Already, they have started putting things in place for their first full length solo album for an upcoming artiste by the name of Matthew Greenidge, which is set for release in April. Additionally, with their consciousness very much a part of their in-studio ideals, the team is gearing up to focus a bit on gospel projects- an area that is highly anticipated.

  • “Challenges Ahead For Jahmoun Mendoza – But The Experience Awaits”

Jahmoun Mendoza is making tremendous leaps ahead of carnival 2013 in Trinidad and Tobago. His single, Nah Stay Home which was produced by Madmen Productions is making waves already and as if that’s not enough, the radio personality who stunned many when he made it to the finals of the Groovy Soca Monarch competition in 2011, assures there’s much more to come.

Mendoza’s spirited personality shines through in his music. On air at one of the country’s most listened to urban frequencies, the artiste delivers what is possibly the most energetic three hours across the FM band between the hours of 12pm and 3pm Monday to Thursday. Music is a very big part of Mendoza’s existence and so, when he jumped onto the music scene a couple years ago, it was hardly a shock.

Ahead of C2K13, Mendoza is preparing for yet another first- the challenge of standing beside veteran T&T entertainer, Ronnie McIntosh at the forefront of McIntosh’s new band, The Experience. “This is like the first time I will be performing at one event and going to another, night after night. Experience was launched in the later part of Carnival 2012 and we did like seven all- inclusives and it was a real experience for me, so this time around, actually kicking off the season is going to be something completely different,” he acknowledged.

Mendoza says he sees it as a challenge but anticipates it all the same. “I’m going to be on stage with a veteran and I’m going to soak off everything from him and I know that he is not going to allow me to fall or fail. Ronnie is going to make sure that I’m good- that’s one thing I’m sure of,” he said, noting that their relationship is very similar to that of a father and son. “Ronnie relates to me in a way that I don’t think he relates to anybody else. We feed off each other well on stage so while it will be a challenge, I know it will be ok,” he assured.

Jahmoun has been very careful of the music he puts out so much so that in the past two seasons, he’s only released two singles for both carnivals. This year however, there is speculation that he will be dishing out something on the groovy side of things to add to his repertoire. “ I’ve been contacted by a few writers so I’m thinking of doing another song but I’m not certain just yet. We’ll just have to play it by ear,” he said.

In the meantime, the very vibrant radio mic man/ artiste is enjoying every bit of the ride in the entertainment arena. He has earned the respect of his peers and the masses alike and judging by the response to his 2013 single, that respect is about to increase- deservedly so.

  • Award-Winning Filmmakers Raising Funds To Tell He History And Influence Of The Steel pan.

“They didn’t care. A steelband man, you have sticks in your pockets; you would be the subject of police harassment.” That is the opening line from Panomundo (the promo), a 7-minute video that explores the history of the steelpan. The film uses a series of interviews to give an account of the hardships that the pioneers of the steelpan faced.

Award-winning filmmakers, British director Keith Musaman Morton and American producer Charysse Tia Harper, travelled to Trinidad & Tobago in January 2012 to uncover how the steelpan, which originated from an oil drum, became a highly respected musical instrument.

“The slaves came with their African tradition of drumming and they used bamboo sticks,” Morton explained. “Soon that was outlawed and other variations of ‘improv percussion’ were introduced until a dustbin was picked up and then an oil drum came into play.”

The founding fathers of the steelpan uncovered they could make different pitches on the oil drum by tuning it in a certain way, which is how the notes on the pan evolved. By how widely it is accepted in communities around the world, no one would suspect that it came from such a tumultuous background.

“It was a great experience to talk to the men and women who witnessed or were part of the uprising,” Morton said. “Not many people know what a struggle it was to play this music and that’s why we want to tell this story in its entirety.”

Panomundo (the word being a combination of ‘steelpan’ and the Spanish word ‘mundo’, which means “world”) is set to be a feature-length film. Though the promo video gives an insight into the history of the steelpan, it does not explain how it is globally popular. The next step will be to capture the influence that the pan has on various cultures. Thus the duo has set up a campaign on Indiegogo an international crowdfunding site to raise $30,000 US to complete the film.

“It would not be considered ‘history’ if it did not have an impact on people,” Harper explained. “In order to fully understand how strong that influence is, we will have to visit those locations and have them explain it to us.”

The deadline to raise the funds to complete the film is 15th January 2013. Morton and Harper will then shoot in Spring 2013 and edit the project by summer. They have been asked to preview Panomundo ahead of the Notting Hill Carnival in London in August 2013.

“It will be an honour, really. We’ve had such nice chats with Sterling Betancourt, Russ Henderson, Ray Holman and Ray Funk, to name a few. It will be a pleasure to have their knowledge and story heard by an audience,” Morton said.

In the meantime, the filmmakers will continue to screen Panomundo (the promo) – they had two recent screenings in London, including one at the 4th International Steelpan Conference at the University of East London- and another in Los Angeles in October.

Towards the ending of Panomundo (the promo), international pannist Ray Holman sums it up nicely: “Pan has taken over the world….Canada, Africa, Germany and France. I’m very proud…that such a small country as [Trinidad & Tobago] could have music that will be interesting and so loved by people in large metropolitan cities.”

  • Soca is ours for life

The weeks ahead will likely see a strong amount of emphasis being placed on East, Trinidad. With the island’s carnival merely three months away, the feting calendar is being requested, however fetters must know, ahead of time that East Trinidad is going to erupt with excitement in the upcoming season.

After years of observing, the Prison’s committee plans on delving into the Carnival excitement and celebration in 2013. With plans already underway to host the biggest fete East Trinidad has ever seen or experienced, organisers are guaranteeing that everyone from across both Trinidad and Tobago, will want to be a part of this super event.

Dubbed, Soca For Life, the fete will be hosted at the spacious Prison Sports Club grounds, located along the Churchill Roosevelt Highway in Arouca, on January 26. Known for large turnouts on the occasion of Prison’s annual sports day, organisers are anticipating that their carnival fete will garner the same level of support among the general public across the island. “What we always guarantee and live up to is a safe event. We’re working closely with the various arms of national security to ensure patrons of a safe, enjoyable carnival fete next year,” said Michelle Weekes- spokesperson for the Prison’s committee.

Soca For Life was conceptualized out of the committee’s desire to truly endorse soca music and the artistes who represent the genre. “Soca belongs to us. We live soca- we breathe soca and normally we just have it for one time of the year, so with this endorsement, we are letting it be known that we feel Soca should be loved and showcased year round. Soca is ours for life,” said Weekes. Her sentiment was echoed by other representatives of the event who agree that the fete, which will be on par with other major events like Army and Fire fetes, is just what is needed in the upcoming season. “We want to bring something home to the East. We’ve been hosting the sports day for the past 71 years so that is probably what we’re best known for when it comes to events, but we want to show that the Prison’s committee supports carnival enjoyment as well. The people who have attended the Sports day over the years will agree that we have what it takes to deliver a first class Carnival fete at our facility,” said Weekes.

Plans are in place to provide shuttle services from various key locations across T&T and with big names in the mix such as Bunji Garlin, Fay-Ann Lyons and the Asylum band, Ravi B and Karma and Destra Garcia and her band- just to name a few- there are certainly good signs that this new event in carnival 2013, will be one to remember.
