Live Your Life – Gentleman & Richie Stephens
Multi-platinum reggae artist Gentleman – who is still celebrating the news that his 2011 solo album Diversity was among 50 albums on a provisional Grammy Awards list for ‘Best Reggae Album’ – is not resting on his laurels. The talented German born sinjay has instead cracked the whip on the promotions of his new album of duets titled “Live Your Life” with Jamaican reggae ambassador Richie Stephens.
As part of their hectic schedule, Gentleman and Richie performed recently at the Reggae Boyz historic 4-1 victory in the World Cup 2014 qualifying game vs Antigua/Barbuda. The victory sealed the team’s place in the next round of their ‘Mission to Rio’ World Cup campaign.
“Our performance at the Reggae Boyz game versus Antigua was extra special. Any opportunity I get to perform for my Jamaican fans is an opportunity I always cherish” the German sinjay noted.
“I am also fired up about how things are going with the promotions of the new album. The album is slated to be released later this month and we have been getting favorable reports about the lead single and video for ‘I Found Heaven’ and other songs on the disc” he said.
In late October, Gentleman and Richie travelled to New York do a ‘Meet & Greet” and an intimate live performance at Mingles Cafe in the Bronx, NY to launch their album. While in NY they made a number of special appearances including an autograph signing session at the VP Records retail store in Queens where they did an interview with WBLS radio host Dahved Levy and Dub Master Chris on Irie Jam radio, 93.5FM – the loudest voice to the Caribbean Diaspora in NY. Other live performances included an appearance on the popular morning show – Smile Jamaica (TVJ) – and a special live, unplugged studio performance and interview with Winford Williams of On Stage, CVM TV. Other radio and television interviews are scheduled before Gentleman heads home to Germany in December.
“I have a lot of things on my plate musically for 2013 including a number of one off performances and an extended European tour where I will be joined by Richie to support the release of Live Your Life” he said.
Gentleman, the son of a Lutheran pastor was drawn to reggae’s revolutionary spirit and truth-seeking lyrics ever since he was introduced to the island’s sounds. He has since had a string of solo hits and platinum-selling records in Europe. He won Best National Artist five times for three different award shows (Echo Award 2003 & 2005, Comet Award 2005, 1Live Radio Award 2004 & 2005) and has been nominated twice for Best Reggae Artist (Martin 2004 Awards and Reggae and Soca Awards). He has collaborated with artists ranging from pop superstars Pink and Destiny’s Child to reggae legends Michael Franti & Spearhead and Barrington Levy.
