Haiti Film Fest in NY on May 9-12
NEW YORK, NY (May 3, 2013) – The second annual Haiti Cultural Exchange (HCX) Haiti Film Fest will bring together film enthusiasts to celebrate Haitian cinema and culture. This year’s selection of 21 films, five of which are exclusive New York premieres, will feature provocative and innovative stories of artists in exile, the Haitian revolution, and coming of age. The line-up also includes some powerful shorts that range from experimental social commentary to sharp-witted comedy and an exclusive selection from recent Ciné Institute graduates. Many of the screenings will also be followed by Q & A’s with featured directors and producers.
The HCX Haiti Film Fest will kick-off with an Opening Night Reception on Thursday, May 9 at East Village venue Drom, featuring a special performance by iconic songstress Emeline Michel, screening of select short films and music by DJ Zing. Frantz Voltaire, Founder of CIDIHCA, will be honored for his work in film and archival research.
An inaugural Emerging Filmmakers Networking Event with select short films will be presented on Friday, May 10 at FiveMyles Gallery in Brooklyn.
