Tropicalfete’s Award of Excellence honors the accomplishments & contributions of persons and/or organizations that have had a roll in the development of the Caribbean Community. The achievement of the awardees is significant on an international level where their work had a positive impact to the Caribbean community in the areas of culture, social, sports & economics. TropicalFete’s Award of Excellence 2011 was Ms. Patricia Meschino, a journalist who specializes in writing about Caribbean music and culture. Patricia is the Caribbean correspondent for Billboard Magazine. Her additional work credits include being the music editor of Air Jamaica’s In-flight magazine and SkyWritings. Additionally, she contributes to, Riddim magazine, The Associated Press, The Village Voice, Vibe Magazine, The Source, The Miami New Times, Caribbean Travel and Life Magazine, Sandals Lifestyle Magazine, Red Bulletin (Holland) & Songlines (UK). She contributed the music section to a National Geographic book, entitled “Great Caribbean Family Vacations,” and was a featured commentator in the 2009 BET special “The Top 20 Greatest Moments in Reggae.”
Tropicalfete’s 2010 Award of Excellence was presented to Playwright Michelle Anglin of “lost my Heart in Haiti”: A drama based on the devastating earthquake that hit Haiti and the lives it changed. One woman’s struggle to rebuild her heart, while our nation rebuilds her country. Friends and family come together to learn about the pride and love of the Haitian community.
