'Support Local' Says Soca Megastar Shurwayne Winchester"

Port-of-Spain, Trinidad. November 2011———-Last weekend, Shurwayne Winchester and a team of local fashion experts collaborated to give the public a brand new, multi-dimensional essence of what they could expect from the soca megastar in the season ahead.

Choosing to keep everything local, Shurwayne opted to be styled by Anthony Reid- male fashion designer for local design house, Meiling. His photos were taken by acclaimed local photographer Calvin French at the Trinidad Union Club. It was his way of supporting, and rallying with the fashion industry of T&T- letting it be known that he has the strongest confidence in everything that is local. Shurwayne took the opportunity to warmly congratulate local fashion designer, Anya Ayoung Chee on her success at the Project Runway 9 competition. . He said Anya’s success proved that T&T is much better than many people here at home choose to believe. “What Anya did for this country – no amount of money spent behind marketing T&T, could have done.”

He noted that Anya, throughout the series, maintained her Trini accent and looked the part of a true Caribbean beauty. He said what was even more notable and deserving of applause, was the name given to her fashion collection on the final night of the show. “ She probably has everyone in the U.S. googling Tobago,” said Shurwayne with a laugh. Anya’s ‘Tobago Love’ themed collection was, according to the designer herself, inspired by a trip to the island of Shurwayne’s birth. “ I know that feeling oh too well. Tobago has the ability to take your breath away,” he said.

Beyond his photo shoot this past weekend, the artiste who has already released three singles and one collaborative remix, appeared at two parties in East Trinidad. He also revealed that “Jiggle It” vocalist Inches would be rolling with the SW team in carnival 2012. “ Inches is going to be big in Trinidad this year. It’s his first time out of Barbados and boy, he’s going to send crowds wild when he hits the Carnival stage,” he predicted. Beyond that, Shurwayne’s keeping his ear to the ground- this as he focuses on which of his many already- produced singles to release next. The love he’s been receiving from everyone in the entertainment world has been overwhelming thus far and with a yearning to keep that love growing, Shurwayne is focusing on delivering only the biggest and best soca singles, in the weeks ahead.
