VETERAN CALYPSONIAN HERB BLACK TO BE HONORED BY SAINT LUCIANS IN NY

NEW YORK, NY – As part of the celebrations recognizing Saint Lucia’s 35th Independence anniversary, the Saint Lucia House Foundation (SLHF) is proud to announce Saint Lucian Veteran Calypsonian Herb Black, (Anthony Sylvester Lewis) will be the recipient of the prestigious award for contribution to the cultural art form of Saint Lucia. Herb Black hails from the fishing village of Anse-La-Raye and has an avid love of the arts. Herb Black is a veteran calypsonian and many of his compositions have become legendary.

The annual Gala is the culminating activity in commemoration of Saint Lucia’s Independence anniversary. The event is scheduled for March 2, 2014, from 6:00 pm – 11:00 pm at the elegant El Caribe Country Club located at 5945 Strickland Ave Brooklyn, NY.

Matthias Wilkie, president of SLHF, says “as we celebrate the 35th Independence Anniversary it is only fitting that we honor an artist such as Herb Black for his consistent commitment to the Calypso art form of Saint Lucia. Affectionately known as the people’s champion, he has always been relentless in ensuring that his contribution each year is of the highest standard.” Herb Black will arrive in New York on Saturday, March 1st, and receives his award at the event on March 2nd.

Wilkie went on to say, “We are very excited to have Herb Black in New York Celebrating the 35th Anniversary with Saint Lucians in the Diaspora and we are even more ecstatic to honor him for his contribution to the arts”.

This year SLHF will also honor members of the community for their outstanding contributions in Business, Community Service, Leadership, Sports, and Humanitarian work.

The Saint Lucia House Foundation was established in 2010 with the mandate to serve as the Umbrella organization for New York, New Jersey and Connecticut working in conjunction with the Saint Lucia Consulate in New York.
