Soca Star Farmer Nappy Launches New Album 'Big People Party' in New York City

New York, NY – Trinidadian soca star Darryl “Farmer Nappy” Henry is set to ignite New York City as he officially launches his latest album Big People Party to media and fans on Sunday, April 13, 2014, at famed Manhattan music venue, S.O.B.’s (204 Varick Street, New York, NY 10014). His third, full-length studio effort was released worldwide (both physically and digitally) on February 25, 2014 by FOX FUSE.

“I am happy to be officially launching my album Big People Party with the support of my full team, live for the first time in New York City,” states Farmer Nappy.
“We are bringing the very best sounds of groovy soca, as we aim to introduce our music to a larger audience. I’m also extremely grateful to my longtime supporters.
I would like to invite everyone to come join us for this event and I look forward to thanking everyone in person.”

Farmer Nappy is the only soca artist that has an internationally-released album thus far this year, as he continues to play an instrumental role in bringing soca and calypso music to the global masses, for 30 years and counting. A venerated and versatile entertainer, Farmer recently thrilled thousands attending Trinidad’s Carnival season, where his lead single “Big People Party” was a mainstay across airwaves and on party playlists at the scores of festivals and fetes. It debuted in the Top 10 on the iTunes Top Songs in Trinidad and Tobago, peaking at #2.

The sizzling single was produced by top soca hit-makers De Red Boyz and secured Farmer a spot in the International Groovy Soca Monarch competition, in which he placed third. Farmer also blazed his way down the streets of Port of Spain on Carnival Tuesday (March 4), where his groovy hit was the surprising anthem on the road, scoring second place in the Road March competition. Thus, he forever changed the formula for Road March anthems, which are typically high-energy, power soca tracks that keep the immense crowd marching down the road, all day long.

This showcase of his music in New York City is a rare chance for mainstream and Caribbean media, along with longtime and new fans, to see the star in such an intimate setting and to also witness the official launch of his new album. The four-piece band members are Scott Galt of De Red Boyz from Barbados on guitar, Shawn “Mr. Roots” Mitchell of WIZ Records from Grenada on bass guitar, Darien Bailey of Studio B from Barbados on keyboard, and Mel Alick from Barbados on drums – making for a diverse and ultra-talented grouping of some of soca’s top producers, all pooling their talents to launch this electrifying artist and exciting album.

The event is presented by Farmer Nappy’s Country Life Entertainment, FOX FUSE and S.O.B.’s, and will be hosted by soca music’s top radio personality Dr.
Jay, journeying all the way from Toronto, Canada. Music will be provided by Team Soca – an international collective of radio and club soca deejays, including DJ Spice from New York City’s Power105.1FM, and video coverage will be provided by Julian Hackett for Julians Promos. Doors open at 7:30pm and the event is completely free for everyone. There will also be an artist meet-and-greet and album signing for fans.

With his new album in hand, caping off another successful Trinidad Carnival and enjoying the most sizzling season in his flourishing career, Farmer Nappy is bound to indeed have a big people party with all attending.
