JAMAICA NOW PART OF GROOVIN’ IDOLS WITH RJR 94 FM

New York: The hypnotically popular Groovin’ Idols contest that allows extraordinarily talented rising stars to perform on the opening segment of premier New York City summer concert, Groovin’ In The Park has now moved to Jamaica, the home of Reggae music.

Starting immediately, singers, DJs and other performing talent who are based in Jamaica can now participate in RJR’s Supreme Karaoke Singoff to win an all-expense paid trip to New York City to perform on Groovin’ In The Park, alongside legends like Michael Bolton, Billy Ocean, Lt. Stitchie, Morgan Heritage, Luciano, Coco Tea and Capleton.

The ‘Jamaica Groovin’ Idols’ contest will be hosted on the popular afternoon entertainment show ‘The Two Live Crew’ with Markland ‘Action’ Edwards and Wesley ‘Burgerman’ Burger on RJR 94 FM on Tuesdays from 2 PM to 5 PM. Along with the assistance of guest DJ Quakie, the RJR team will seek to unearth the most riveting Jamaican talent from across an island that is famous for producing world-class performers.

The show will proceed through the weekly Tuesday rounds from May 12 to June 2. Each performer will be going full force and from a process of elimination, the final three will be selected who will sing off at a Kingston club in front of a local team of judges and a hungry public who will be cheering them on to the nail-biting finishing line. The eventual ‘Jamaica Groovin’ Idol’ will travel to New York to perform on the June 28 concert at Roy Wilkins Park in Queens.
“I am thrilled that we will now have a Groovin’ Idol from Jamaica on the concert that will be selected through RJR 94 FM in Jamaica”, Christopher Roberts, founder and CEO of Groovin’ In The Park said. “I’ve been very passionate about the Groovin’ Idols contest, and I am very happy to see it take off in such a big way both here and in Jamaica”, Roberts continued.

A parallel contest has been running in New York City for the past few weeks to select a ‘Groovin’ Idol’ from each borough of the city. The New York leg has been a radio contest as well, run on Groovin’ Radio 93.5 FM, and the listener response to the contest has been nothing short of astonishing, with hundreds of callers flooding the station with votes for their favorite talent. So far, the winners in New York include Jhaytea from Brooklyn, Press Fyah from the Bronx and Rooster Don from Queens. A wild card slot in New York leaves the gate open for one of the runners up to jump right on main stage.
