Theatre to commemorate Trinidad and Tobago’s 50th Independence
The Walt Whitman Theatre at Brooklyn College in New York is the new venue for the 10th Annual
International Soca Awards, which will be held on Friday August 31st, 2012. It is OFFICIAL! The date
has been set, the venue booked, and artists have confirmed their attendance and participation on this
commemorative event. On the day when Trinidad and Tobago’s 50th Independence is being celebrated,
the Soca Awards Ltd. (SAO) is truly excited to make this year’s award show in honor of the beautiful
twin islands.
The attire will be Red, White, and Black. The carpet will be Red. The festivities will be riveting and
inspirational. SAO in its resilience is here to show the world that T&T’s culture is the vehicle that
propels the show forward, with soca as its fuel. A timeless tradition to celebrate everything, big or small
is part of our culture, but this year’s nominees and honorees are groundbreakers in their own rights. The
show will proceed to honor Rikki Jai, Machel Montano, Black Stalin, Brian Mac Farlane, Ellie Mannette,
and Calypso Rose. There will be door prizes for the best outfit of Red, White, and Black for a male and
female, and a fireworks display of performances from Soca’s top artists. Tickets will go on sale on
August 1, 2012 starting at $31 in honor of the thirty-first of August, and up to $50 for VIP in honor of
T&T’s fiftieth anniversary independence.
Many people today have seen the evolution of calypso and pan, and can recount the days leading up to
T&T’s independence. Soca is a music genre loved and accepted by many, and the roots are well planted
in Trinidad and Tobago. iSA 10 is always ready to showcase to the world the many faces of Soca,
calypso, mas and steelpan, that has contributed to a universal acceptance and love for the culture. SAO
continues to push forward in making the soca genre and all involved universally recognizable.
