GENERATION LION CELEBRATES 10 YEARS WITH JOUVAY BAND ‘DAWN”

The band with the innovative lion masks is back; with top models in the band and live performers, with local and international DJs playing old and new school Soca along with Electronica and Afro-beat mixes for the road!

2014 marks 10 years of the GENERATION LION BRAND- which includes the historic Jouvay band and Generation Lion Magazine. For the anniversary year the team plans a number of events including: special Hall of Fame events for T&T heroes; niche concerts in spectacular locations; and a constant release of Lion merchandise. This year the brand will be re-launched to both local and international audiences.

The year however begins with the GENERATION LION JOUVAY BAND. This year the band is called ‘DAWN/ mudlight’ and is a $400. all-inclusive, premium drinks experience, serving Breakfast-on-the-Road with comforting security, and a water-truck soak-down to get revellers ready for Carnival Monday. In celebration of its 10th anniversary the band is pulling out all stops to live up to its tagline of: ‘the most magical Jouvay on the road!’

GENERATION LION has been one of the most innovative bands in Jouvay since its inception in 2004. The band re-introduced masking to the streets with their own conceived and sculpted, collector’s item lion masks moulded by T&T artist Sheldon Clemendore. The masks were used in 2004 to launch T&T Carnival on NBC in New York and London by TIDCO. The masks have been such a spectacle that foreign news crews and filmmakers regularly film the band on the road.

Band leader Rubadiri Victor has also collaborated with some of Trinidad and Tobago’s best photographers like Kerron Riley to create spectacular photo-shoots based on the masks and themes of the band. These images have found their way into international art gallery shows and magazines. Rubadiri has even developed a form of filmmaking he calls ‘Jouvay Filmmaking’ based on the way the photo-shoots of the band are conducted. He plans to release a series of the films shot in this manner- including the one to be shot this year- after Carnival.

For the 10th anniversary the Generation Lion team is taking Jouvay right back to Roots- and into the future. On the road they will be mixing the ‘old’ with the ‘new’. Committee member Rocklyne Cornwall says, “We’re giving people a totally awesome musical experience and jump. We’re coming with sets of Old and New School Soca. DJ Joy Juice will provide the New School Soca, whilst DJ Taurus Movement will provide Old School Soca mixes. The band will also experiment with international Electronica & Afro-Beat mixes on the road with international DJs. On top of this, jumping with us this year are the top female and male models of Elle Model Management!!! We’re looking great before we even start!” Cornwall continues, “We are also rebooting our signature collector’s item lion masks in hundreds of hand-done variations. Revellers can also choose between metallic gold and silver body paint along with Mud and Blue paint! We will be producing a series of collectible T-Shirts as well as postcards and collectibles. On top of all this we have live performances on the road by people’s favourite artists! And we have a live rhythm section to keep the music real… All for $400! That’s real value! We are the most magical jouvay on the road! Simple. Nothing prepares you for the epic nature of the GENERATION LION Jouvay experience…”

Co-band leader Jhunean Giraud says, “10 years ago this band took the streets with the dream to bring something different to the jouvay experience. This year we are re-booting the vision. Re-launching the passion. Come jump with us!!!”.
