  • Stylez aka IAmStylezMusic Logs 21,000 Views and Counting!

Stylez aka IAmStylezMusic logs more than 21,000 views on YouTube, and 70,000 views on Facebook for his recently released “It’s a Pitty” music video.  The artist personally thanks fans during his live Facebook broadcast.

The independently produced song and music video has been gaining traction on the radio since its release in April, and continues with visual strides by way of YouTube and thousands of fans who have logged on to watch, comment and share the video’s link.  The video has been available for one week and already has more than 300 comments, 1.5K likes and 1K comments.  The song, which comes from a compilation of promotional singles, was produced by the artists own Blaze Entertainment Records.

Speaking to fans during a live Facebook broadcast, the artist personally thanked fans for the support, and even took time to shout out people who have supported the artist from day one.  “Nuff love and respect to my fans that’ve been with me since day one” the artist said, “from the radio people who gave me a chance, to the fans who followed my career when I first began til now.  Trust me, I appreciate it [the support] and will not let you down with future releases!”

Logging on to the broadcast from Jamaica, Canada and the US, several viewers were not shy to express their pride in the successes Stylez has been achieving.  One such success was turning on their television to see the artist doing a live Skype interview with NT TV in Uganda who debuted the video live on their Pepsi Countdown show.  “Refreshing music video” said Howie Ari “This is the first I’m hearing this artist but I know he’ll reach far.”  Kemar S adds “You haffi reach far wid this video mih Genna; trust God and big up!”

The music video for the song “It’s a Pitty” combines Dancehall culture with cinematography and storytelling.  Shot on location in Jamaica, filmed by the HD Boyz and directed by Stylez, the music video sees the artist survive a plane crash in a desert, and armed with a prayer and two Psalms, overcome obstacles meant to dissuade him and throw him off his chosen path in life.  To emphasize the point of how energy flows, subtle effects using color can be seen emanating from Stylez throughout the video.

Tying in Dancehall culture, the dance crew Unruly Skankas makes an appearance at the pivotal point in the song where Stylez realizes that he has to be his own ‘crew.’  The lyrics to accompany this thinking says “dem bwoy anuh gangsta fih real / dem bwoy ah gangsta inna panty sheet” meaning you can’t trust what people say.

Lee Majors as well as Tony Carr from WPFM 89.3 FM and Candyman from Sompa FM in Ghana all agree that the song and video are a success.  “When you get to the point that fans want to hear you on the radio and see you on the screen, you know you’re doing something right” said Lee Majors.

  • NYC UNDERGROUND MAVEN GETOVERHER PREMIERES R&B A/V EXPERIENCE ON VASHTIE.COM

    http://www.vashtie.com/music/exclusive-watch-getoverhers-bad-timing-music-video/

New York City’s real recognize real. Such is the case with Jason Scott, now known for R&B and hip-hop offerings as GETOVERHER, recently tapped Vashtie (Downtown’s Sweetheart) to unveil his new song and video titled, “Bad Timing.”

“The mesmerizing visual,” according to Vashtie.com, takes a deeper dive into the GETOVERHER’s narrative of love. “I can’t commit. Will you be patient? My arms in twist. I must resist. Since my conscious chimes in. It’s just bad timing,” he professed.

He admits the track is heavy on emo, the opposite of what is expected during the summer season when trending songs have a brighter and more energetic tone. Jason Scott’s ability to swim upstream is a sign of how he is an anti-conformist. The video is an ode to Destino, an animated film by Walt Disney & Salvador Dali. The imagery is remixed by Johan Chiriboga to sync with the instrumental produced by MNTN. GETOVERHER’s songwriting, Chiriboga’s art direction and MNTN’s musicianship  on “Bad Timing” is a follow-up to their contributions to last year’s Low Key project by Feel Up Records signee, BOYSLASHFRIEND.

Previously, GETOVERHER premiered his debut single, “Baby Oil” on TheFADER.com.

    More about GETOVERHER

Jason Scott Henderson has been a curator and participator of New York’s underground music scene for over 10 years. He is one of the few young Black men influencing the city’s taste in music by introducing them to the rapping, singing and DJ talents of his friends (NiRE, BOYSLASHFRIEND, Fat Tony & Tom Cruz), including his own baritone voice that utters addictive melodies and profound lyricism.

Jason’s story climaxed last year when he hosted Boiler Room’s 5-year anniversary at Brooklyn’s Good Room. He also celebrated the growth of BPMLWRLVL, an underground music series he founded in 2012. Through such events, he has formed a compelling resumé. His DJ career is also bubbling. In October 2015, he performed a live DJ set on Sway in the Morning. This February the Chillin Island crew (Dapwell of Das Racist, Despot and Lakutis) interviewed Jason Scott on their Know-Wave.com radio show.

Jason Scott’s finger is not just on the pulse of music, he is the heartbeat. This spring, GETOVERHER toured key U.S. markets with Beyoncé’s “it” producer MeLo X and BOYSLASHFRIEND. Expect  GETOVERHER’s forthcoming album, BLACKWATCHSAD this summer ’16. It will feature production by Helix & Neana of Night Slugs, Joseph Marinetti, MNTN, DJ Mario Bee, El Blanco Niño & Bassbear, recorded at Red Bull Studios, NY.

  • Caribbean Tourism Organization and Family Travel Association announce partnership

The Family Travel Association (FTA) and the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) have formally announced a partnership  to promote a travel agent educational programme for the Caribbean.  As part of the agreement, the CTO and CTO members who join the FTA will be eligible to work with the FTA and CTO in the development of educational material for travel agents. This includes webinars, editorial/content for trade partners, live events (conferences/trade show) participation, promotion on FamilyTravel.org and both the CTO and FTA newsletters.

“Our research indicates that 93 per cent of American parents are either “very likely” or “likely” to travel with their children in the next two years so we are thrilled to be working with the CTO and its members in not just inspiring families to travel, but to help travel agents better understand and sell the Caribbean to this complex demographic,” says Rainer Jenss, FTA President, who founded the organization in 2014 to create a single and collective voice on behalf of the travel industry and those companies that serve traveling families.

“Given the incredible wealth of experiences the Caribbean offers families, this partnership will ensure that travel agents are prepared to meet the needs of this highly lucrative market segment”, added Sylma Brown Bramble, Director CTO-USA, Inc. “We are particularly delighted about the value and opportunity the new FTA and CTO relationship will provide to the OneCaribbean Chapter (OCC) members.  Travel agents are one of our greatest assets in Caribbean destination travel and providing value to them through relationships like this is our way of showing appreciation for the great job that they do selling the Caribbean year after year”.

The One Caribbean Chapter (OCC) was created by the CTO  with the primary purpose of enabling a business environment in which travel professionals can gain access to knowledge of the region and its diverse tourism product; networking opportunities and education on the unique selling proposition of the various Caribbean destinations.

OCC is the vehicle which gives travel agents access and advantage to increase their business to over 28 Caribbean countries under the regional umbrella. The chapter provides education on the myriad niche products available in the Caribbean and destination support to prepare travel professionals for success in selling each country’s unique travel product.  oneCaribbeanchapter.org

  • JAH9 JOINS FORCES WITH VP RECORDS & UNVEILS HER FIRST SINGLE “HUMBLE MI” FROM HER UPCOMING LABEL DEBUT ‘9’

VP Records is pleased to announce the welcoming of Jamaican singer-songwriter and producer Jah9 to the family. This week, she unveils “Humble Mi” to the world (out Fri. Jun 24), the first single from her highly-anticipated label debut ‘9’, slated for release on September 9, 2016.

    9 | 9 | 2 + 0 + 1 + 6 = 9
“This song was inspired by my whole journey and life unfolding, teaching me that knowing is not the journey because you will always have to know more. The journey is peace, love and balancing the energies within,” explains Jah9.

Watch live rendition of “Humble Mi” on BBC Radio 1Xtra.

Listen (feel free to post) “Humble Mi” now:

    HUMBLE MI 2

Through the new addition of Jah9, VP Records, the premiere reggae label and distributor, will break new ground with her depth of talent. She joins the label’s longstanding reputation for producing hitmakers: Sean Paul, Gyptian, Beenie Man, Beres Hammond, Morgan Heritage, Tarrus Riley, Busy Signal, Alborosie, I Wayne, Romain Virgo, Christopher Martin, Raging Fyah, Lady Saw, Spice, Etana, Queen Ifrica, Bunji Garlin and many more.

VP Records CEO Chris Chin expresses his enthusiasm about the signing. “We are excited to share Jah9’s fusion of reggae, jazz and spoken word to the world. She exemplifies the meaning of multi-talented – boasting sharp songwriting and production skills matched with her soulful voice – and exudes a presence and spirit that resonates with the listener. She has something unique and special that will carry on for generations to come.

Jah9’s relationship with VP Records has blossomed in recent years. Her track “Feeling Irie” was a highlight of 2015’s The Biggest Reggae One Drop Anthems, and this year Jah9 contributed “Bloody City” to We Remember Dennis Brown, a tribute album to the Crown Prince of Reggae.

For those who’ve been waiting for Rasta consciousness to mount a resurgence in contemporary reggae, Jah9 is a figure of revelation and deliverance. She first caught the attention of many with the release of her lilting video for Avocado.” When heard in the full flower of older songs such as “Steamers A Bubble,” “Jungle” and “Gratitude” Jah9 was revealed to be a singer and poet of considerable range, soul and jazz inflected melodicism. Her fiery and righteous live shows can testify she is hardly a made in the studio chanteuse incapable of translating to the stage with abundant dynamism. The product of a strong upbringing, by two hard working culturally and politically engaged parents, Jah9 is also a university graduate, a multidisciplinary yoga instructor, a youth at risk counselor and a celebrated dub poet. The combination of intellectual rigor, real world activism and lyrical musicality is well on display in her entirely self-produced sophomore album ‘9’. Thematically there is no slacking in spiritual advocacy, oppositional militancy or honed and focused tunefulness.

Based in Brooklyn, New York-based Fryktion Muzik is helmed by St. Vincent and the Grenadines-born producer Ramón “Fryktion” McDowall. The studio has been churning out soca hits since 2007, and Fryktion added to his talents as an artist in 2009, and has been pushing the Fryktion Muzik sounds globally as a double-threat.

The Wahjang Riddim features soca sensations King Bubba, Problem Child and Sekon Sta, in addition to the instrumental, making for a four-track energetic, groovy soca compilation. King Bubba’s “Calling In Sick” is already enjoying heavy radio rotation in Barbados, where the 2016 Crop Over season is underway, and the tune is perfect for hitting the fetes and roads on carnival day. Problem Child delivers “So Good” and Sekon Sta scores with “Night And Day,” and both songs are racking up views on YouTube, with their audio-only videos.

Soca stars Patrice Roberts and Problem Child again team up with Fryktion Muzik for their new party anthems “Comfort” and “Friend Ting,” respectively, on the The Sauce Riddim. The up-tempo, groovy soca riddim is short and sweet with the two tracks from the soca stars. They were previously featured on Fryktion Muzik’s massive The Fete Life Riddim (released in May 2015 from FOX FUSE), which killed the airwaves during the 2016 Trinidad Carnival season, churning out huge crowd favorites “Money Done (Fete Out Money)” for Patrice Roberts and “For All Ah Dem” for Problem Child. Fryktion Muzik keeps them armed as carnival season picks up around the world, with these new soca sizzlers.

  • New Release – 40-Track Box Set Celebrating 50th Anniversary of Jamaican Rock Steady | First Class Rock Steady

VP RECORDS CELEBRATES 50 YEARS OF ROCK STEADY WITH COMPREHENSIVE 40-TRACK COLLECTION  FIRST CLASS ROCK STEADY

Highlighting The Genre’s Most Timeless Hits and Its
    Significant Impact in Jamaican Music

Available July 1 on International Reggae Day

    first class rock steady

2016 marks the 50th anniversary for Jamaica’s celebrated musical genre rock steady.

Rock steady, which was a successor of ska and precursor to reggae, used elements of rhythm and blues (R&B), jazz, ska as well as African and Latin American drumming. With its irresistible slow tempo beat and more bass-heavy, stripped-down sound, it was a distinct contrast from the more upbeat, big band ska era. Although it lasted only a couple of years (1966-68), rock steady is one of Jamaican music’s most influential genres and produced immortal rhythms that are still sampled and used today.

17 North Parade, VP Records’ vintage imprint, commemorates the genre this year with First Class Rock Steady, a limited edition vinyl-only box set (exclusive for 2016 Record Store Day) and its CD and digital companion piece that features a more comprehensive 40-track collection (available July 1st). 17 North Parade will celebrate the release in conjunction with International Reggae Day (also on July 1). Details will be announced later this week.

The LP’s detailed cover and CD sleeve reflects the excitement of the era when postal mail was the only mode for sharing this burgeoning Jamaican export for worldwide consumption. Playing off of Jamaica’s long history of tourism, the album’s packaging also features images of picturesque postcards and stamps of Cricket (a Jamaican pastime), the Doctor Bird (national symbol) and Montreal’s Expo ’67 (World’s Fair).

In addition, the remastered collection’s packaging includes extensive liner notes written by Harry Wise and filled with quotes from the genre’s key players, including living legend Bunny “Striker” Lee, Trinidad and Tobago’s late-great Lynn Taittand the 2014 fallen icon, Hopeton Lewis.  Rock Steady was also popularized by the likes of Alton Ellis, Desmond Dekker, Johnny Nash, Errol Dunkley and vocal harmony bands like The Gaylads, The Maytals, The Heptones, The Paragons, The Sensations and The Melodians, all featured on this extraordinary historical set.

VP Records Co-Founder Patricia Chin remembers the time clearly. “Rock Steady was a time when Jamaican music really came alive. Sound systems were booming and artist competition was fierce. It dramatically changed the music landscape, similar to how dancehall transformed reggae’s prominent sound at the time. Rock Steady music was also great for lovers because it spawned more slow dancing styles and really allowed people to connect.”

At the time, Patricia and her husband Vincent Chin owned and operated Randy’s Records, Kingston’s burgeoning record shop and recording studio located on 17 North Parade (hence the name for VP Records’ vintage imprint).  She adds, “when Rock Steady emerged, Jamaica knew we had something really interesting in the culture and that was music.”

  • “It’s a Pity” Music Video Released featuring Stylez aka IAmStylezMusic

Dancehall’s rising star Stylez, aka IAmStylezMusic has just released the music video for his hit single “It’s a Pity” which combines Dancehall culture with cinematography and story telling.

Speaking to fans during a live Q&A on Facebook live, Stylez talked about the struggles that upcoming artists face, and the struggles that sometimes come when people let you down thinking that you’re rich and have it all.  “People thought that I come from Uptown and have rich parents so they didn’t want to give me a chance” said the artist, “so I had to figure out who was who really quick and make sure my lyrics and visuals were on point so people had to give me a chance!”

Fans far and wide are giving the artist a chance and are excited about the video.  One user who goes by the handle KPip says “I first heard Lee Majors play the song on Boomstation, and from there I became a fan.  I love the video.  It’s a good look for Stylez!”

The video for “It’s a Pity” can be seen on YouTube via www.YouTube.com/IAmStylezMusic
