  • Etana Joins Fight for Ebola & Will Perform at United Nations on Mar 2 + Her Song “Better Tomorrow” Chosen as Official Anthem

Jamaican Songstress Set To Perform at Private Concert Held at the
United Nations General Assembly Hall on Mon. March 2, 2015

Her Single “Better Tomorrow” Selected as Official Campaign Anthem
And Re-Released on March 3 With All Proceeds Going Towards Cause

Led by the United African Congress, Give Them a Hand Foundation and the Friendship Ambassadors Foundation – Etana and VP Records have joined the effort to fight Ebola and participate in the “Stop Ebola and Build For the Future” campaign and concert at the United Nations on Mon. March 2, 2015. These initiatives will benefit the efforts to combat the worst outbreak of the disease affecting Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone through a multi-pronged approach focused on spreading prevention information and providing training, building a robust system of support for those impacted (especially children orphaned by the disease) and building community clinics in the affected countries.

The critically acclaimed Jamaican reggae singer Etana has graciously offered up the title track from her second album Better Tomorrow as the official anthem for the “Stop Ebola and Build For the Future” campaign. The song will be re-released on March 3, 2015 via iTunes, and all proceeds from the song will go towards the cause.

WATCH one of many video clips that features “Better Tomorrow” as theme song:

“When I wrote the song I thought of Africa and how rich and beautiful the continent is yet there are so many struggling and suffering people and only a handful of very wealthy people. I also had similar thoughts of people in America, South America, Jamaica, Haiti, India, etc. I wanted the world to feel like I feel, that there must be a better tomorrow. When I heard that someone was so moved by the song that they wanted to use the song to help people affected by Ebola I was overwhelmed with emotions. I am so happy to see the song doing exactly what I wanted it to do – help, heal and strengthen humanity. I am grateful to everyone participating in the mission to help make it a very successful one. One perfect love to each and everyone,” states Etana.

Etana and her band will also take the stage at a private concert held at the United Nations General Assembly Hall on Monday, March 2, 2015 from 6:30pm to 9:00pm to raise awareness about the initiative. She will perform songs off her latest album I Rise as well as a special remix of “Better Tomorrow” featuring artists from all over the world, all who will unite on stage to fight for change. Political figures, including Secretary General of the United Nations Ban Ki-Moon and his wife Madame Ban Soon-taek, as well as celebrities, such as Derek Jeter, Lisa Vanderpump, Robin Roberts, Nick Cannon and Salt-N-Pepa, will also participate and attend the event. The concert is possible through a partnership between the UAC, GTAH, the Permanent Mission of São Tomé and Principe, the Permanent Missions to the UN of Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea and the Observer Mission of the African Union as well as numerous nonprofit and community organizations, health professionals, and faith-based groups. The Friendship Ambassadors Foundation will act as the 501(c) 3 nonprofit fiscal conduit.

  • “I Will Tear Down Soca Monarch”- Blaxx

“I Will Tear Down Soca Monarch”- Blaxx

Port-of-Spain, Trinidad. ———-“When I hit that Soca Monarch stage tonight, all hell will break lose.”- Blaxx.

Claim the win, that’s how soca star Blaxx says he will send a shockwave throughout T&T this year following the International Groovy and Power Soca Monarch showdown tonight.

He’s very serious. His faith is unwavering and despite several other big names contesting him strongly in the Groovy leg of the competition, he says his single, “Place In Life” has outlived several other songs this season, the DJs at all popular radio stations showing a lot of love for the tune. “It’s a big song. People underestimate me sometimes but when I put on my show in the Groovy this year, they will wonder where that came from,” he assured.

His Power contender is mighty, whichever way you look at it. “Boy, at Army Fete last week, the people felt the power of that song. I can’t thank Andrew Phillip enough. It’s a song I love. I love to perform it and when I give them that one at Soca Monarch tonight, people will see a transformation at that stadium,” said the artiste. He’s been at almost every major fete this season with the Roy Cape family. He’s supporting his fellow Roy Cape Groovy contender, Ricardo Drue, but he won’t make it easy on any of his competitors when the curtains are drawn and the band strikes up at the biggest soca showdown in the world.

Blaxx is ready. His vocals are on point and with a hint of humour he assured, “they don’t need to worry. I’m breathing fine. They just need to be ready to show me who is really the maddest crew in this thing!”

Blaxx will perform in position number 5 in the Groovy leg of the competition and 10 in the Power Soca Monarch, one place after the reigning King, Machel Montano. “This game isn’t for the feint at heart. It’s for the finishers. I will show them!”

  • MaddSpider Productions Starts the New Year in a Sunshine State!

MaddSpider Productions Starts the New Year in a
    Sunshine State!
    Orlando, FL
MaddSpider Productions begins 2015 with the release of their new riddim, Sunshine State which features performances from established Dancehall artists including a surprise feature from the hit duo Born Jamericans – Notch (Horman Howell) and Edley Shine (Edley Payne).

Purposely playing on the expression Sunshine State, both Jermaine ‘Froggy’ Lawrence and Ashanti ‘Taranchyla’ Reid named the riddim to give light to the fact that there are several positives to Dancehall despite some of the negatives we hear in the news. They also pay homage to the state they live in, Florida, which is often referred to as the Sunshine State. “Coming from Florida, we get a lot of sunshine and a lot of energy from the huge Caribbean population here. We also have a lot of talent that is based here, so calling the riddim Sunshine State made sense because it’s everything we are!”

The 12 track riddim compilation features performances from Delly Ranx, T.O.K., Ce’Cile, Wayne Wonder and more and was recorded in Orlando, Florida and in Kingston, Jamaica. Using modern music elements and borrowing slightly from the EDM genre, the riddim stands out as its BPM is at 78 which is very unusual for productions today. Most fall in the 90 to 100 BPM range. “Slowing down the riddim was important to us because it allows each artists performance to resonate with listeners. When the BPM is slower, the vocals are more clear” said Froggy MaddSquad, one half of Madd Spider Productions.

Dancehall’s badgyal, Ce’Cile recorded the song “It’s Yours” on the riddim and said “the moment I finished recording my song, I told my manager and Froggy that this is going to be a hit for me. They agree and so do a few trusted DJs I’ve allowed to hear it!”

Making its debut via ZJ Liquid on Zip FM, the feedback was immediate and good. “The listeners like the riddim and like that it stands out from all the other riddims being produced. It’s Dancehall and it’s crossover so it works for everyone.”

The Sunshine State Riddim was released on iTunes on February 10th, 2015 via this link:

    About MaddSpider Productions:

Formed in 2009, Madd Squad Productions is based in Orlando and has been producing for their label, and for individual artist release. Riddims such as Hot Water, Basik Instink, Island Breeze, Not Tonight, Double XL, Coconut Water and more have earned them the respect of their peers and have made them two of the most sought after producers. Their projects have been featured on iTunes and consistently receive radio play from international markets – the UK to Australia to North America to Europe. They currently work with Shaggy, Machel Montano, Kranium, and Collie Buddz, and have produced for Buju Banton, Gappy Ranks, ZJ Liquid, Wayne Wonder and more.

  • TMAR – MIND CONTROL (New single & video)

Second single & official lyric video!

Following the release of his debut album “Pursuit Of Happiness” to great reviews, Tmar has decided to release track 4 “Mind Control” as the second single along with a lyric video.

Mind Control is one of the tracks that has been a hit with the DJ’s and fans alike, so it was an easy choice.

Tmar- “I chose to do a lyric video for this song because sometimes reading the lyrics of a song can help to convey the message the way the artiste meant it, it can even make it more personal sometimes”

The message in Mind Control is one that Tmar feels is necessary in this so called information age, as the song tells us to be careful of what information we digest as facts and truth, one should also learn how to “Control” their own minds. With lines like “Your mind is a weapon, Use it wisely” and “dem twist information, Misinformation, which information right” Should make you pause and think for a second.

The message though poignant is laid out over a hard hitting reggae riddim, with a groovy baseline, so you can have a skank and enjoy the message at the same time.

Tmar is already back in the studio working on new material and also planning a promotional tour across Europe, be on the look out for dates coming soon.

You can purchase “Mind Control” on iTunes and all major music platforms.

New material will highlight special treasures in both audio and video formats. The first release on the schedule is BOB MARLEY & THE WAILERS–EASY SKANKING IN BOSTON ’78. The new package, of completely unreleased material available for the first time in any format, will come in Blu-Ray/CD combo pack, dvd/cd and cd versions. The video was shot with a hand-held camera by a fan that Marley allowed to sit right in front of the stage. The result is remarkable footage that captures Marley from just a few feet away, allowing one to experience the intimacy of his set. While the cinematographer was shooting with film and needed to change rolls during the performance, the gaps in the live footage have been augmented with specially created animation over the existing audio. This also marks the first time they have approved newly created material, in this case animation, for a Marley release. The animation video was produced by Craig Bernard and Sara Mora Ivicevich; created and directed by S77 & Matt Reed and Michael Scroggins was the Oil Light Artist on the project. Between them, their resume includes recent projects including Bruno Mars, Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers and many others.
Robert Nesta “Bob” Marley was born February 6, 1945 in Nine Mile, St. Ann Parish, Jamaica. Music was Marley’s escape and way to survive Trench Town, a government tenement housing project where he lived that was teeming with poverty and crime. One bright spot from Trench Town was another local, Alfarita “Rita” Constantia Anderson who he later married. He cut his first single, “Judge Not,” in 1962 when he was just 17. It turned out to be a local hit, and was followed by “One Cup of Coffee,” “Terror” and “Do You Still Love Me.” Although he earned very little money from his records, he ended up meeting Peter McIntosh (Peter Tosh), and together joined with childhood pal Neville Livingston (Bunny Wailer) to write songs together as The Wailing Wailers, named because they were ghetto sufferers who’d been born “wailing.” They debuted with “I’m Still Waiting” and its “rude boy” ska style follow-up, 1964’s “Simmer Down,” topped the Jamaican charts. Soon they would be known simply as the Wailers.
A man who rose from the humblest of origins to become a champion for the oppressed, Marley was a streetwise sharp dresser influenced by the U.S. civil rights movement and the music and fashion of black America. He sang of rebellion, Rasta, partying, uprisings and love. Long before the world discovered him, both Bob Marley & The Wailers and Jamaica were grooving to rocksteady classics “Sugar Sugar” “Soul Shakedown Party,” and perhaps his deepest devotional track, “Selassie Is The Chapel.” Other classics included “Duppy Conqueror,” “Soul Almighty,” “My Cup,” “Trenchtown Rock” and “Small Axe.”

Marley knew that his music and reggae was just limited to Jamaica and set his eyes on the world. In order to break out of the Jamaican market and on his own, Marley moved to London and signed with CBS Records U.K.. In 1971, Marley founded his own Tuff Gong label and was signed to Island Records by its leader Chris Blackwell, who had licensed some of his band’s previous releases for Island Records and offered Marley a deal to record their debut album, recording CATCH A FIRE at Harry J’s in Kingston. 1973’s CATCH A FIRE, their first album released outside Jamaica, signaled the emergence of reggae’s patron saint and immediately earned global acclaim, even garnering the group its first tour of the U.S. Reggae’s first true album, rather than a collection of singles, CATCH A FIRE included such well-known tracks as “Stir It Up,” “Concrete Jungle” and “Slave Driver”–all of them fiery, politically charged, and uncompromising.

The album BURNIN’ that same year launched the reggae anthems “I Shot The Sheriff” and “Get Up, Stand Up.” Eric Clapton’s #1 pop version of “I Shot The Sheriff” gave a major boost to reggae’s acceptance with the general public and to recognition for Marley, who some have called the first Third World superstar. But the album would be the last Wailers effort with Tosh and Livingston. By 1974, the original trio of Marley, Tosh and Livingston broke up, going their separate ways.

With a new backing band which included brothers Carlton and Aston “Family Man” Barrett on drums and bass, Junior Marvin and Al Anderson on lead guitar, Tyrone Downie and Earl “Wya” Lindo on keyboards, Alvin “Seeco” Patterson on percussion and the I-Threes (his wife Rita Marley, Judy Mowatt and Marcia Griffiths) on background vocals, Bob Marley and the Wailers hit their stride, achieving their first U.S. hit with “No Woman, No Cry,” from 1975’s NATTY DREAD. The album featured Marley’s name on top for the first time, and is considered by many to be his finest album and one of reggae’s best – balancing revolution and celebration like no other reggae album before or since.

Marley then followed it up with 1976’s RASTAMAN VIBRATION, which proved to be Marley’s American and commercial breakthrough, climbing to #8 on the Billboard 200. RASTAMAN VIBRATION paired hard-hitting tracks such as “War” (essentially a musical recitation of a speech by Haile Selassie, the Ethiopian emperor considered a prophet of Rastafarianism) with lighter fare such as “Positive Vibration.”
Bob Marley & The Wailers were declared Rolling Stone’s Band of the Year for 1976. “Marley, like Dylan, has transcended genre,” wrote the magazine. “You only have to see him on stage, a dancing dervish, dreadlocks wind-milling, to realize that here is a rock & roll star.”

Marley was becoming an international superstar, not just a pop music personality, but a political figure for the underclasses around the world, a lightning-rod for liberation in such songs as “Get Up, Stand Up,” “Exodus,” “Waiting in Vain,” “One Love,” “Zimbabwe,” “Africa Unite,” “Wake Up and Live” and “Survival.” The singer/songwriter was the target of an assassination attempt at his Kingston home on the night of December 3, 1976, during rehearsals for a free concert called Smile Jamaica. During this attempt, a bullet grazed his chest, wounding his wife and manager. A defiant Marley went on to perform at the show just two days later, his injuries visible to one and all, and it further solidified his heroic stature as a real leader of the people and his true commitment to his words “One Love.” The violence forced Marley to move to England for a two-year exile.

EXODUS would be Marley’s only album primarily recorded outside Jamaica; its London sessions were the first time the band recorded in the 24-track format. His exodus resulted in an album that was tough and reflective, angry and romantic, suitable for domestic consumption and for crossover success.
Featuring the international hits “Jamming,” “Waiting In Vain” and “One Love/People Get Ready,” EXODUS was named Album of the Century by Time Magazine. “Every song is a classic, from the messages of love to the anthems of revolution,” Time wrote. “But more than that, the album is a political and cultural nexus, drawing inspiration from the Third World and then giving voice to it the world over.” The irony of EXODUS is that in leaving Jamaica, Marley brought reggae home to the rest of the world. Along the way, he popularized the innovative form known as “versions,” which separated out and spotlighted the instrumental rhythm tracks to reggae songs. Due to this process, reggae’s loping, hypnotic rhythms would find its way into rock ‘n’ roll.

Upon his return, and not one to give up his quest for peace, he famously brought together Jamaica’s warring factions, having political rivals Michael Manley and Edward Siega join hands with him on-stage during his historic “One Love Peace Concert” in Kingston, which took place on April 22, 1978. No bullets this time.

Shortly thereafter, Marley was awarded the United Nations’ Peace Medal of the Third World in June, 1978, by the African delegation for his efforts “on behalf of millions of disenfranchised blacks round the world.”

The mellow KAYA in early 1978 was highlighted by “Is This Love,” one of the most buoyant and unabashed love songs in the Marley repertoire, and “Satisfy My Soul.” BABYLON BY BUS, released later that year, is considered one of reggae’s most powerful concert albums. The fist-pumping SURVIVAL in 1979, with the track “Africa Unite,” was followed the next year by UPRISING, which featured the impassioned “Redemption Song.” Marley’s support for the struggles of Africans brought attention to their plight and he became an honored guest on that continent, including performing in 1980 at the celebration of Zimbabwe’s Independence Day.

Bob Marley stands as one of the giants of world popular music, with his untimely death at the age of 36 on May 11, 1981 in Miami from cancer complications, leaving us without one of the most revered and influential performers of the 20th century.

In 2014, thirty years after its original release, Bob Marley & The Wailers, LEGEND, shared the top of the charts, holding the No. 5 spot on Billboard’s 200 Album Chart among Maroon 5 (#1), Jeezy (#2), Guardians of the Galaxy Soundtrack (#3), and Ariana Grande (#4). Marley’s accolades include inductions into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (1994) and ASCAP Songwriters Hall of Fame (2010), a GRAMMY® Lifetime Achievement Award (2001), multiple entries in the GRAMMY® Hall Of Fame, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (2001). His music was the centerpiece of a 2011 Grammy tribute by Bruno Mars, Sting, Rihanna and sons Damian and Ziggy Marley. In 2004, Rolling Stone placed Bob Marley #11 in its list of the “100 Greatest Artists of All Time,” and in 2012, an acclaimed feature-length documentary, Marley, directed by Kevin McDonald (The Last King of Scotland, State of Play) was released to critical and audience acclaim.

Bob Marley’s legacy truly lives in the artists and generations he has influenced. Today, the spiritual, political and musical resonance of Bob Marley’s work continues to be felt around the world.
Bob Marley’s 70th birthday – an occasion to celebrate his global legacy.

marie-claire ends 2014 on high note with UN performance
    2015 looks promising

New York City NY: Two performances at the UN Headquarters in New York on 10th December 2014, rounded off a fruitful year and set the tone for an eventful 2015 for jazz/opera singer, marie-claire.
Accompanied by pianist Mun Tzun Wong, marie-claire performed “Amazing Grace” and “Laschia Ch’io Pianga” (from Hendel’s Rinaldio) at the High-Level Pledging Luncheon to raise funds for the Permanent Memorial at the UN to honour the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade.

Chair of the Permanent Memorial Committee and Jamaica’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Courtney Rattray, praised marie-claire for her “exquisite and resounding performance” which played “an invaluable role” in the success of the event.

That night the Permanent Memorial Committee raised over USD $400,000 towards the completion of the Memorial scheduled for unveiling on 25th March 2015– International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade. The Memorial, called “The Ark of Return” was designed by M Rodney Leon, a celebrated American architect of Haitian descent.

During the year she also had well-received performances at the Metropolitan Room and noted jazz venue Smalls Jazz Club – both in New York City. She also penned lyrics to four compositions by Pulitzer Prize-winning and Metropolitan Opera House-commissioned composer of the Great Gatsby, John Harbison.

She has already kicked off 2015 with a show at the Metropolitan Room on 20th January. She returns to the UN in June and in October her vocals will be on show in Jaipur India at the private collection presentation of “Quatre Poeme Hindo de Maurice Delage” – a four song cycle by the French pianist and composer. marie-claire will sing the cycle in French.
